Just got an email from client asking if he should order in-ceiling speakers on the proposal I gave him from audiophileliquidator.net.I wont say the make or model, but lets just say it was at or below cost. After checking out the inventory on the site, I found many manafacturers and part numbers that trouble me.I hate to stop using the product, but I may have to, along with a couple other companies. This is what I propose: Check out the site, call the manafacturer, the supply house, the Reps. and let them know that you will go somewhere else for your parts.Together something can be done.I dont know who these dirtbags are that run this site, but I do know that for anyone who takes pride in their work, this is the enemy.

Audiophile Liquidator inventory has been purchased from going out of business ventures, for that reason we are able to offer pricing lower than MSRP. We sell factory New, A-Stock Products! How can manufacturers prevent them from buying and reselling products from companies that are going out of business? That would certainly explain the below-cost pricing. Of course, it's possible they're lying and are actually buying the stuff from authorized sources - that would be easy for manufacturers to stop. EDIT: Upon further viewing, it's very hard to believe they would have such a wide product offering unless they're buying new stock from a distributor.

They don't really carry most of the stuff on the site. I've been through the same issue with a potential client who tried to order from them and it was not available, then they wanted to shift him to another brand/model that they could supply.

Tell the client......Sure but i will need to adjust my labor bid to compensate for the revenue i am losing on the sale of the in-ceiling speakers. ______________________________________________ I wonder what the client would say if you sent him an email that said... "Should me and my guys show up at midnight and work until 6AM?" You know.. because it saves you the trouble of dealing with traffic and you can schedule another project on the same day during normal work hours. It's a great idea and he should be just fine with it because it saves you money... right?

There isn't much left that you can't buy online cheaper, except quality service. That's what we all sell. I just left a future client's house who informed me he bought his interconnects from such-and-such website. I informed him that I would be happy to install them for him, but I wouldn't warranty any of the labor for those products. We only warranty what we sell. I asked him if it was worth saving a few dollars buying questionable products, or spending a little more and being able to not worry about it. He's not buying anything online and is going to be returning some stuff to BB. :)

anyhomeneeds, that's a great approach, but it is a bit confrontational. Is there a nice way to say that we need the profit on the parts to ensure that we are still around next time he needs us?

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |

Your clients know they are being a jackass when they say things like "hey, i found this product online for much less, should i get it from there". Once the jackass line has been crossed you can take your gloves off. I am not saying you get to be a jackass, just that your days of tiptoeing are over. You have to confront jackassedness head on. Dont play games or feel like you have to justify anything. These are the only valid responses. "Sure but i will need to adjust my labor bid to compensate for the revenue i am losing on the sale of the in-ceiling speakers." Or... "I wont install products that are purchased from someone else." Or... "Sure, go ahead and walk on me, i am basically a loser who wont stand up for myself."

where is the article about how a dealer handled the same situation. he had a conference call with client and web vendor. he asked questions and tried to procure the product. when it couldnt be done and the bait and switch occurred, the CI firm saved his ass. I'd call and try to get the product first. then call again with client on another phone

Also, I agree with the above, you don't get those lines and variety by purchasing a few "going out of business" specials. Ernie, I didn't want to sound like I'm hurting for the business. I just laid it out straight for him, what the possible consequences are for buying product online.

By the way, in case it's not clear enought that they're NOT buying from companies going out of business (or, at the least not ONLY buying that way)... ... then how are they listing RTI products that aren't even on the market yet?? Whose company went out of business and sold them the products that were never released??

I have heard a lot of horror stories from people that have bought from that site.
