hey all, long time

I'm presently trying to fix a problem I created from listening to a sales rep....

I was told ( at the prewire stage) that the greater montreal area had XM repeaters installed so I would'nt need to have a line of sight XM antenna... Well it doesn't work, I do not get any reception. Here's my problematic; I have spare cat5 or RG 6 going to my equipment rack, are there adaptors for Yamaha's plug and play connector?

a better solution anyone?

It won't work - no adaptor will work to their proprietary antenna - it has more than just the antenna in the package.

The Delphi XM signal repeater will do it.

Make sure you try a 2nd antenna. I had a customer who had a perfectly clear line of sight and no signal, it was the antenna. I went through 2 of them before I got 1 that worked. You can also hook up another receiver and try the antenna on it to make sure it works. The Yamaha unit has the XM tuner and antenna in the external unit that you install either outside or on a window (anywhere you get signal).

The Delphi unit is not an external antenna - it's a local repeater. If your Yamaha antenna is in a steel cage, it won't work but short of that, it seems to clear up most problems...

Did you try it personnally? should it get 50 feet of range trough a bricked wall? the rack is located in an enclosed area of the basement

BTW, it's not just the Yamaha that uses that style of antenna.

Althought the early xm pieces had simple antennas connected, the new style uses integrated tuner/antenna electronics. You notice the standard connector - antennas from Terk/Delphi/whomever should interchange.

The new "style" lets Yamaha, Integra, etc call their receivers "XM ready".

Ready as long as the rig is installed near a south facing window...

your right, we also have wires available to hook them up. Companies like Niles, Elan, etc use a single run of RG58 to an exterior location and your done. No solution so far with the mini usb connector used by Yamaha and company... I just don't get it
