I am wondering what will be the best basic remote to use for zone 2 control on Marantz SR7500.

Just the basic control, input, volume and so on.

I was thinking of Marantz RC1400, is there better alternative ?

The problem with the rc1400 is that it is not a very simple remote to look at or use. I tried a bunch of them on a job and the clients never used them.

I don't blame them either. Go for a cheap urc piece like the RF50 (I think) that looks like an MX-350 for cheap and simple. The buttons are speaced out better and you can have labels for easier use. The rc1400 labels are harder to read.
Sticking to what I'm good at.
