I have an install that requires the sub to be located directly under the monitor in a small cabinet. There is no other option for location for several reasons. Can anyone recommend a subwoofer less than 9" in height that is magnetically shielded so it will fit in the cabinet and not cause the monitor to go nuts? Thanks.

Not to hijack your thread, but what would be considered an acceptable disance from the set? Im going to be doing a similar install soon, and assumed the amount of room between the sub and the actual electroics of the TV set were far enough.

No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall. www.customdigitalinc.com |

What Sub dimensions are you looking for?

Jamo had a small sub only 5" to 6" thick that you could slide under a couch or hang on a wall. I don't know if it is still available. The other dimensions are about 2' X 14". It is Silver/Gray, dual 8". I hung one on a brick wall a few inches below a CRT TV and it looked and sounded great.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Any wire cut to length will be too short. I must be a near GENIUS. All my teachers told me I was at the very PEAK of the bell curve! |

I'd imagine that even the smallest 8" cube subs are going to be at least 10" high... so you might be looking for something with an even smaller driver. There's the Pinnacle SUBcompact 6, but's it's not magnetically shielded. However are you really putting it under a CRT? Or maybe one of the new in-wall subwoofers would do better?

The sub will be under the sony xbr crt 34". I don't want to take the chance with a non-magnetic shielded speaker. An in-wall may be the only option unless there is something that will fit my above dimensions.

It should also probably be mentioned that not all shielded speakers are absolutely perfectly shielded, and can still affect sensitive tubes. So the in-wall route may be better than a sub that's just a little too close...

Otherwise go in wall, or maybe use some beefier L-C-R speakers -- like the self amplified POLKS or GENELECS???

Thanks Scoop, I think that's the one. Do you think this unit will cause any video problems?
