Hi All,

/delurk/

Can anyone recommend a discreet + reliable IR distribution system? I need to control 3 IR devices in a cabinet 8m away from the main Plasma.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Pedro

I haven't found an IR receiver reliable 100% to work with a plasma. If you want 100% reliability you need to go with RF(depending on which brand of remote you select of course). By the way my name is also Pedro.

Let me reinforce what flcusat says thus: I have not found ANY IR receiver that will work reliably in the presence of a plasma TV or monitor, and that includes a couple of models of plasma-proof designs. As we sell and install, we have been able to make the case that a system expensive enough for a plasma and a surround a/v system is also expensive enough to deserve a good programmable remote that uses RF to communicate from the remote to its own RF receiver, which then sends IR via wire to the individual components. There is, then, no IR sensor in the system.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I'll second EBG and flucsat. RF is the way of doing this reliably.

You could try 'plasma proof' models, or 'plasma buster' types, but it could well be hit and miss.

I found out the hard way that Viera and monitor type plasmas give off differing IR and therefore needed different receivers.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that we have a local manufacturer called Andrews Audio that produces the best IR recievers in the world, the IRR-500(prepare for flamin'). We have swapped back from Pronto RF to IR because they are that reliable, and customers can still use the original remote if they wish.
I have also seen the reciever work outdoors in DIRECT sunlight from about 6 metres away.
Yes, they are Xantech compatible.

We've long liked the Niles MS200 IR receiver in conjunction with their MSU140 or MSU250 ...rock solid-we've used this for the majority of our flat panel installations over the last few years. While the MS200 might not be invisible, we are happy to sacrifice this for the reliable performance.

Speakercraft works for IR, even though I would use Crestron or RTI for RF in a heartbeat.
