I know a lot of us here are reluctant to jump on board either platform but I am sure we all want the best info. I was flipping through magazines at the book store today and "DIGITAL TV and SOUND" has a fantastic article about the format war and current players as well as future outlooks. Really nothing we dont already know..... Just a good summary of it.

No I am not affiliated with the Mag.... Just enjoyed the article, mostly the part about the relevance of the name "HD" as it hits mass consumers @ WalMart.

Also, the new "Sound And Vison" mag is simply the best and most informative magazine I have ever read. This should be a consumers bible to proper A/V. Even though the "Choosing a Custom Installer" section is a bit harsh on smaller companies....ah hghm.

My money is on HD DVD. I have heard from the beginning of this that the Porn industry would likely be the deciding factor. I was told at CEDIA that they are now shipping on HD discs.
Besides, which sounds right;
" Let's go rent a BluRay" or " Lets go rent a HD DVD" ?

The article speaks directly on both of these issues. No BS .. PORN is supposed to play a huge factor. Go figure.... That says a lot for society

Why porn is important ought to be obvious and any conservative ought to jump for joy. Follow the money. I heard from Collen Cowherd on ESPN Radio going on about going to somewhere on Google for information about trends. You can see very accurately what is happening in lots of areas by looking at this data. Once in this section you can call up any locality. For example, Salt Lake City was number one with respect for information about family and quilts. It was also number 1 with respect to breast enlargement and porn.

I don't like the way Red States vote. Some might not like the way people spend their money. Ultimately, is there a better barometer of what people want then how and on what they will spend their money? Might there be a better definition of freedom? The unfortunate facts are that the lowest common denominator will always win; High culture always loses. Since the porn industry's choice of format means so much in per capital dollars it's hardly surprising that they're an important player in this format war. Still, the post a bit further down form this may make all of this moot, if true, and it is possible to put multiple formats on a single disc.

After witnessing Joe Kane at CEDIA while he demonstrated his new projector for Samsung, I have to say that I finally have an educated position. The biggest difference between Bluray and HDDVD is in their compression. Mr. Kane demonstrated (on his new Samsung piece, and in a Samsung sponsored booth none the less) how HDDVD has superior compression with VC1 (I don't think that was a real popular stance with Samsung) while Bluray has more visable artifacts with MPEG 2. Mr. Kane didn't just talk, he showed us, it was a real eye opener and an act of defiance against the man!

Yes, after looking into it, I see you are correct. WHile I had paid little attention to what was happening between the two, I found Mr. Kanes display interesting. I am not sure at this point why he advocated HD DVD over Blueray so ademently while mentioning the difference between factions. He was criptic at best since it was obvious he could not state a full opinion while in the Samsung booth, but at the same time, no one in the room was under the impression that he was in the Bluray camp. With that said, I shall rephrase myself and say that after seeing comparisons between MpEG2 and VC-1. VC-1 was clearly the better and apparently has no effect upon which player you choose. The last sentance was typed while I removed my foot from my mouth.
