Anyone have any experience (positive/negative/indifferent) of Cue for control? Wireless TP looks great and the whole range seems competitively price (as it doesn't have to come from over the pond, I guess)

Big in Europe "supposedly" checked it out a while ago, liked their remote layout, support was hard to find, i'd be interested in hearing about it if you get any hands on experience

Come from the Czech republic via Beyerdynamic. Beyer seem like a useful bunch, but just interested to hear the experience of others.

eg pricing of 8.4" wifi panel with all associated controllers and PSU is about £4k. Several keypads can be added for £2-300 each and will run share the same PSU etc. Wallmounted/desktop TPs from 3.5" to 15". Controllers £700-1500. Seem to be drivers for all of the usual kit and Beyer have mentioned some large jobs they have completed.

Also, Beyer distribute the Biamp audio processors which look damn clever. A sort of matrix and a load of DSP in one box so you can process any input in a number of ways and send it to any output. This DSP is assigned to any output or input so you can have different EQ on different sources or different EQ in different rooms for example (I believe). Beyer have Cue drivers written for all their products and most of the common ones- I have asked for a couple of different lighting systems which have been supported.

They do also offer dimmers, DMX, DALI and relay modules as Cue parts. Someone mentioned there is some interoperability with EIB and I think these ay just be EIB parts but please don't hold me to that!

The product info is all at www.beyerdynamic.co.uk which is the fiddliest website ever. Second only to Cue (www.cue.cz)

Sterling retail pricing is on the beyer site for certain products

Hi guys,

I'm a freelance programmer of Cue systems in the UK and can give you more information on this.

The ipCue range is effectively a box of serial ports, relays and IR sensors. There a number of different units with varying numbers of ports depending on your requirements. If a piece of equipment can talk via RS232 or IR then it can be controlled using the ipCue.

I have put in systems using Kramer video switches, Extron, Audia, Nexia and a variety of DVD/VCR and satellite boxes. Also, because many of these devices provide RS232 feedback you can query the units as to their current status. For example, I query the Kramers as to what video inputs are currently switched to which outputs.

They typically work with a touch screen which, again, there are good selection of sizes and types available. These range from small wall mounted units to larger resolution wireless models.

Out of the box, the ipCue unit doesn't do much and needs programming. The language used is XPL, and it comes with a development environment called "System Director". The screen layout and button defintions are programmed using "Design Director".

Because this has to be pretty much totally programmed from scratch it's typically not a system you'd use for a "quick win". However, it provides HUGE scope for complexity and flexibility. Your client can basically request whatever function they want on which screens.

That's it in a nutshell - if you want any more info, please let me know.

Andy
