Are any of you guys using actuaters (chair shakers) in your theaters? I'm beginning to see more of them out there such as the Githammer "butt kicker" and was wondering if they are worth while. I think my clients deserve to have their butts kicked.
How hard can this be?

I thought they were called TRANSDUCERS, not actuators! Anyway, have used Clark Sysnthesis extensivley in the past. They are VERY cool and very effective!

If you want to experience something that will forever change your view of butt-kickers, check out D-Box Technologies Odyssee Motion Simulator. Once you have sat in on one of these, ther is no substitute. The D-box has actuators which sit at the four corners of a platform or couch and travel up to 5/8 of an inch (7/8 for the HL model). It feels like a lot more. The staff encodes a DVD ONE FRAME AT A TIME! They have done over 100 movies. Next CES or CEDIA show check it out or see it at www.d-box.com

Quite right avdude, my good uh... dude. It is a transducer. I think I picked up the actuater part from d-box, but it is intriguing. I'm in the process of putting together a kick-ass showroom (pun intended) and I want to have all the "bells and whistles".

The D-Box would make a "kick-ass" addition to your showroom, but personally, I couldn't see using it on a day-to-day basis. It's just a littlle TOO much for my butt!

I'd rather be "stirred...not shaken!".

YMMV.

I'm installing a Dbox in a theater. It's cool.. Has intensity settings, so it can be brought down if there's too much movement for the user.

The thread returns. Now that some of you guys are using D-box can you tell me if it will work with all DVD's? I seem to recall that it require a special program to work with a particular DVD. Am I tripping again?

The Dbox will "Simulate Motion" with non Encoded movies. The 100 or so movies that have the encoding are pretty cool.
