Stuart1, you need to have Pronto in "Learn" mode before downloading. Press the pronto icon at the top of any screen and hold for 1 or 2 seconds.

It does not have to be in learn mode. It just has to be awake. All you have to do it touch the screen or the backlight button to wake it up.

Go into the Pronto menu and change the back light duration to 60 seconds or so. This should keep it awake for a full download.

Try exiting out of your Hot Sync for your PDA it takes up the serial port nessasary to dock your Pronto. That is the only time i have ever gotten that message. If you dont' have a PDA then see what other device you are using on your serial port and disconnect them.

If you're still having problems try disabling APM (Advanced Power Management) if it's turned on. Just go to Control Panel, then to Power Options, then I think it's the Advanced tab and uncheck APM and reboot. I've had problems on older laptops (couple years old) the APM somehow interferring with uploading/downloading with the remotes, more so when using Windows 2000 and XP than with 98.
