Hi,

I've got a Comscast DVR cablebox, Panasonic plasma tv, yamahaw amp, sony CD and panasonic dvd-r and am looing for the right remote. I'd like both my wife (not interested in learning the intracies of a "system") to be able to watch tv etc., but i'd like a "macro" to set the system up to warch tv or dvd in either tv speakers or surround sound via amp. I need various tv "imput modes" adn there is no single button to get from component 1 to component 2 (tv . ... dvd), one must use up/down arrows.

Is there a remote that makes this flawless, adn allows me to change amp imput as well.

$ are important, but easy to set-up and use have value. I'd like to simulat ALL my existing remote buttons in the universal remote.... paying especiall attention to the comcast cablebox/dvr remote too.

Any suggestions are greatrly appreciated,

Thanks,

Henry

Probably the Universal if you plan on DIY. Something like the MX-850 probably fits the bill.

If you plan on 'hiring a pro', they will most likely supply either the MX-850 or an RTI Product such as the T2+ to answer the needs you have put forth. I would stay away from the Pronto-style touchscreen remote if you want your wife to like it. (JMHO).

Good luck, either way.

djnorm,

He posted this in the Home Theater forum and it's funny that I also suggested the MX-850. I, too, don't like touchscreens (a remote was made to use with just one hand, right?). Also, I have a Panasonic TV and there are plenty of discretes for input switching.

Why get a 850? Its dirt cheap, readily available, easy to program, doesn't take a lot to get it programed.

I seriously disagree with the statements that it is better than all touchscreens. I have replaced many a 850 with a TSU 7500 or RTI T3. And yeah a lot of the stuff on it can be done with one hand. I designed the screens to allow for one hand use.

SO better statement might be... its reall good compared to a basic or "quick touchscreen program".

In a gym or something like that... hell yeah the 850 is a good choice. Drop that thing rather then a $1000 touchscreen.

Most people prefer a non-touchscreen because you don't have to look at it. Sure you can design a touchscreen to work with one hand, BUT you still have to look to see where the buttons are. A hard button remote is sometimes preferrable becuase you can FEEL where the buttons are.

I hate having to look at a remote while watching a movie, I know where every button is on my remote without looking or turning on the backlight!

That's exactley where I . fall too Rob. I had a TSU3000 for a couple of years. Worked everything great. Then I switched to an 850. I'm a channel surfer, and I don't like looking down constantly. I much prefer my hard vutton remote. Also the buttons on a hard button remote seem to be more responsive. I can't wait to get my 950 though....
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

I beg to differ...

Find a local dealer that does RTI. Get a T2+, tell them exactly what you want, and have them program it. The RF is bullet proof and the remote works great! It is a touch screen, but VERY manageable with one hand.

Hire a Pro!

Just quoting myself to make clear that I didn't say:
it is better than all touchscreens.

Touchscreens have their place in the world... It's Just My Humble Opinion that as a general rule women don't like them.
