Get The Keyspan! I had the same problem with the Belkin. You can get the Keyspan at CDW.com for about
$30.00. Get The Keyspan! :)

Don't have a Pronto, but did buy the Belkin for use with Crestron, and so far so good (although my new Sony GRX-670 seems to have occasional issues after plugging in a second USB device - Crestron's Viewport can't see the processor). If anyone has similar issues and has used the Keyspan, please reply.
Thanks,
Paul

Send the Dell back, if you can, spend a little more and get one with a DB-9. I think Dell will take it back within 30 days. I wish I sent mine back, (inspiron 2600) with the Keyspan(USA-19QW),it does work with Pronts & VIA Tools, but dosn't work with HyperTerminal.

www.iogear.com usb serial adaptor works great. No lock-ups as on the belkin and best of all it is a cable not a bulky adaptor

The Keyspan you mention works perfectly on Prontos, Marantz and Crestron and Panasonic Phone systems on my Inspiron 2600 and Toshiba. Comp USA (hate them) stocks them

jayman;
don't know if you solved your problem.but i have same problem with my computer. i e-mailed philips website regarding this problem they wrote me back saying that pronto edit needs an actual com port setting of 1 not a virtual port setting configured by usb to serial adapters software the said as for now its a "no-go".even though i told them that its a problem out in the field to me they didnt seem interested of finding a solution so we are stuck shopping around with trial and error until we find one that works.it sounds like the keyspan model may work if you buy it and it works post your findings so we can find out.
p.s. i bought my son a toshiba with windows me a year and a half ago i also bought a usb to serial adapter made by "iogear" his computer only has usb also. com.port 1 was open so the iogear software configured his computer for com port 1 and the iogear works great .so explain philips response on this issue.any way good luck and happy pronto programming!!!!!!!!

I picked up the iconcepts PDA USB Adapter and it works great with the ProntoPro. I bought it at CompUSA for about $35. The only thing you need to do is change the COM Port to COM1 in the Device Manager. Good luck and thanks to everyone for the help.

I had the Iogear and it worked great on a Toshiba satellite but now I just bought a older(cheaper that I don't mind running around on sites with)toshiba that has a db 9 connector and it's still more reliable with the intellifile programmer
