I know this is a dumb one but can you use a car ant for a home unit? The base is powered and I have a spare power inverter?

You should be able to, with one possible exception -- often antennas intended to be mounted on a metal surface will be made differently from antennas made to be set on a (home, wooden) window ledge; an antenna made to stick up in the air will be more like the window ledge type. The car antenna might work, but not as well as it would if on a metal surface.

Just slide your refrigerator over to the window and put the antenna on top of that. Even a mini refrigerator or a microwave, although the unit might not receive while you are actually heating hot chocolate.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hijack....

Sirius or XM in Hawaii yet? Anybody?

I'm visiting the mainland and I'm on the verge of yelling at the next guy who raves about how great it is to have XM or Sirius.

You can get Sirius online if that helps.

You can and i highly recommend that you do use the car antenna outside the house. I have been using the directed 14105 with far superior results over the "home" antenna. No aiming as well.

Any power concerns, in that will I have to use the car dock that is 12v, or can I just go into the home dock?
Thanks all

I have not had to use any adaptors with the directed 14105 with sirius home tuners the car and home units have the same plug (AVR's not included). We also use the 50' extension cable that has the amp in the head. In our area we have tile roofs and there is always a metal vent or flashing. Just slap the 14105 onto the metal and walk away. Of course construction adhesive could be used if your location has no metal nearby. I'll pass on the "what up" tomorrow.
