Anyone know if the low end Yamaha (HTR series) receivers have discretes? I know the higher end ones do, but I'm not sure about the others.

yes, Yamaha tends to "recycle" codes. That is codes from a different
line htr or rx-v will interchange.

I have an HTR-5280 that honors the same set of discretes for the RX-V800/900.
