Installed my first Blu-Ray player today. Unfotunately the movies don't come out till Tuesday. Control was about like any cheap DVD player. No ir in or rs-232. Stuck the emiter on, learned the remote, set the macros to play for on and play-pause-power for off. The upconversion for regular DVDs was ok. Go back next week to see how Blu-ray looks on a 55" fujitsu.

With those reviews I just can't wait. Let me guess, no discretes, got to be a Toshiba...

Toshiba doesn't make Blu-Ray. I'm guessing this would have to be the Samsung?

You're talking HD DVD, I take it. I'm really more curious to know if they are going to implement HDMI on these early movie releases. Please let us know what comes out of component video, jayson, and what features you get out of the LAN connection.

There is a very interesting article in this month's Residential Systems by Anthony Grimany about HDMI and audio on the new HD DVD. Also why using component output on those sets could be a problem in the future. A must read to save some headaches.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

He has to be talking Blu-Ray. HD DVD's have been out for a while.
Seven Blu-Ray DVD's will be released Tuesday.

Samsung Blu-Ray. It was late so didn't try any discretes. Good old play and play-power for on and off worked fine. They are on the shelves at the big boxes as of wednesday.

Julie, I have not reached those specific threads on AVSforum yet, but supposedly the Samsung player has started appearing at some stores.

not much of substance but here's the avs thread:

It would be funny to write a review of a blu-ray player without content avail, describing the color of the box, the quality of the manuals, etc.

My mistake, thought he mentioned it was a Toshiba. What about some comments from those of you who have used HD DVDs - do you like the system overall? Read in a recent review that the toshiba takes more than a minute to get started. Pretty lame but if the picture can make up for it, I guess it's an acceptable sacrife for early adopters. Is the Samsung player just as slow to start?
