We are updating an old family room entertainment unit with a TV opening of 38 1/2 inches. Anyone know of a 40 inch with that width.

It's called a 37 inch display. LG 37LC2D is 37.2x25.9 Panasonic's commercial 37" is 36.2 x 21.7 The LG comes with speaker and tuner and full compliment of connections, including serial and discrete IR. The Panasonic requires BNCs, has fewer connections ( including a common composite/Svideo audio connection ) no HDMI (although an additional card can solve this ) but has serial and discrete IR.

Alan, can't you just squeeze a little bit of plasma out of a 40 to make it fit??
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

It's easy. Kind of like burping the Tupperware before it goes in the fridge.

Just make sure to leave the plasma refill port accessible.
