Anyone tried this yet, does it work? All documentation i could find has been unclear about whether or not this jack is active-the manual labels it for future use but I am wondering if I can actually make it work. Could not get ahold of scientific atlanata yet... Thanks for any help.

Technically it is not labled an "IR in" rather "IR". According to Scientific Atlanta, it is "reserved for future use".

I did try it once when they first came out and it did nothing.

This poster claims that he got it working as an input:

I've tried several times with no luck.

It was on older, non "DVR" type boxes, but apparently on the 8300HD it's either disabled, or is an IR input, depending on who you ask.

I guess you wouldn't need VCR control on a DVR since all recording is internal.

you might want to use a flasher instead. So many times the client has trouble with the cable box, calls cable company, is told that the box is defective from tele support, and schedules a swap out.

We find out about all this when the client calls and the remote doesn't work anymore and the cable guy said we need to come out.

We are toying with the idea of flashing the cable box shelf so it will work if this should happen.
