I am building a custom home and the client has requested a volume control in each room that has buttons for volume up and down and also can be controlled by remote. He does not want to use a twist knob if possible. Anyone know of a maunfacturer of this type?

I don't know of any manufacturer that makes what you are asking for. (Though that doesn't mean it doesn't exist)

What you're talking about, to my knowledge, can only be done with a keypad or touchscreen.

How many rooms will have distributed audio?

How many zones? Subzones?

The new Niles "Gloria" might be a thought.
It is a 4 source, 6 zone distributed audio system with a built-in tuner and 6 keypads which retails for $3000 without installation.

Check out their website for more info.

Kinda like the niles piece, the Russound 6.4 works very well, has a choice of basic keypad, and a numeric keypad
(use both if you have a multi disc cd, or sat)
does not come with a tuner, just keypads and controller/amp 6 zones 4 sources (6.4)
Not sure of the price, I just install then I dont sell them.
Have installed several,works great.

If you only want to control volume (without knobs), Niles Audio and Xantech both make remote-controlled volume controls. As others have mentioned, there are many other options also...
