yesterday, I go to pick up a usb to serial port cable as well as the drivers at radio shack to use it on my laptop. I go to load the drivers off the disk and the disk was EMPTY. There was nothing on the disk. Unbelievable!

Does anybody out there have a usb to serial port driver they can email me so I can use this?

Thanks in advance.
Chris

you should be able to pull it off the web site of the manufacturer of the device

That would be fine except there was no web site listed on the package.
I was in a pinch when I bought it. Had to look hard at the radio shack to even find the one I found.
Oh yeah, It had a made in china stamp on the back of the package. Thats the closest to a web site I could find on the package.

Google USB Serial Drivers...there are a lot of drivers out there, and many of them are not brand specific. Some are multi brand, and will show you a list and pictures of the cables they work with.

I've successfully used a generic driver before...good luck!

the drivers are not universal,. you must know which one it is or its a no go. take it back and get a new one.

Not universal, but not always proprietary either. I think this is the one I used in a pinch for my usb-serial cable:

[Link: bebits.com]

It is freeware, but it worked for my cable, which I believe is FTDI chip based (it was a basic white box from China cable). In this case, I'm assuming the drivers work for the chip, so the manufacturer of the cable is probably irrelevant.
