Ditto all said on the marantz line.

Chuck the mic. Great control; 7500 has flasher input. More component inputs on the 7500 (4) over the 5600 (2).

VCR's I've used come through the 5600 in black and white. PIA to troubleshoot 1st time around...

Oh, and they'll drive like a tank.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

I love the new Yamaha line. The 2500 would be a great receiver for your needs, although there are a few features that it has that you mentioned that you don't need.

The 2600 is even better, but won't fit in your price range. It's primary advantage is HDMI up-conversion, which I understand is not necessary in this case.

The reason that I like Yamaha so much is for all of the discrete commands. It has a discrete for almost everything you can think of. Also sounds prettiy good and seems reliable, based on my experience.

I have been using Denon for a while. Their video output quality is very good.

Thank you,

The black and white on the onscreen menus is not so hot.

I would look into Integra..all models have the IR input on the back, full discrete controls, easy to set up, selecting a source will turn it on,

the DTR-4.6 is 600.00, the 5.6 is 800.00 and the 6.6 at 1000.00

the 7.6 is at 1400.00 and does HDMI switching, all have XM ready inputs

I would go Denon AVR 2106 just installed one in my own media room. Was planning on spending lot more for seperates but until I have a lot more scratch, sounds great not sure I can justify more money on the componants I orginally intended on.
I saw it on the internet cheaper.....

Don't forget Sherwood Newcastle. Doesn't have every bell and whictle a Yamaha may have, but the quality is there.

ya...the onscreen menu leaves something to be desired...but then again, I wouldn't choose a receiver based on what the setup menu looks like.

Just for clarity, the Integra DTR-7.6 @ $1400.00, does HDMI switching but DOESN"T handle analog to HDMI conversion or video scaling. It does upconvert to S-Video and component.

The Denon AVR-2807 has HDMI switching at $1099.00 retail. It's also 1080p capable.

I used to use Denon. I found that their repair support was difficult to find.

I also think that the Denon tuners were not up to par with Yamaha's. A couple of years ago, I did a house with two theaters featuring Denon DVR-3805 receivers, and two other theaters with Yamaha RX-V2400 receivers. The Denons sounded good, but the FM reception was notably weaker on the Denons than on the Yamahas. Since the 3805 was considerably more expensive than the 2400, I was surprised that the FM reception wasn't as good. The client asked me to take back the Denons and replace them with Yamahas.

Yeah, what is the deal with those Denon receiver's tuner section. They definitely suck in the AM/FM department. I have used Denon as our primary line for over 10 years, however not for their tuners. I think they spend about 25 cents for the circuitry.

........and I don't think they will ever change that. Lastly, I say the Denon 2106 is a very solid performer.

I'm surprised. I've gotten good radio reception with Denon using their OEM antennas. Whatever works for you is always best though. :)
