I have a question with regards to a specific component I'm not terribly familiar with - and I'm hoping someone here can share the answer. Yamaha components offer a "remote in/out" feature (via mini-plug on the back panel), allowing them to receive IR remote signals via hardwire. I am installing an RX-V1 receiver into a cabinet with a solid front door (don't worry, the back is open... plenty of ventilation) and am going to be adding an IR sensor outside the cabinet. Now - my question... can I run the output of that sensor directly into the "remote in" jack of the Yamaha? Should/could I run the sensor first into a powered distribution block and then into the "remote in"? Or will this not work - and I should just tack an emitter over the existing IR eye on the front of the RX-V1? Thanks!
Brian, What kind of amplified block are you using? If it's xantech you just use a mono mini plug out of the emitter port of the block to the in on the yamaha. If you have any problems email me at [email protected]. I'm a high home theater designer in ny and the yahama advisory board.
You should be able to run through an amplified block, however on very few occasions an amplified block may produce an output signal that is too "hot". If this should occur (verify by sending sensor signal directly to ir in) the solution would be to use a non-amplified block. I think the answer to your question is simple, any Xantech compatible signal is capable of being manipulated with connecting blocks. I personally can't stand emitters stuck on any piece of equipment. It always seems to be a cleaning persons easy target. If IR distribution is a subject of interest then try to locate a resource published by Xantech called "The Book". I believe it is no longer available, but there are millions out there soaking coffee off installation van floors. GOOD LUCK
Really? That would be a mistake on Xantech's part; how else are we to work out which of their zillion black boxes we need for a job? Do they publish a .pdf or something? And what will I use for a coffee coaster from now on?
Yes, it is a Xantech system that I'll be using - so I'll try coming straight out of the connecting block into the back of the receiver. Hopefully it'll work just fine. Thanks for the info!
