I'm looking for a 70V amp 5 - 6 channels/zones that I can attenuate individually and than have them all controlled by a master control either with IR or serial controllability. I'm probably going to end up with a 8 ohm system from what I can tell.

You want 6 areas that all listen to the same thing, with six vc's to attenuate, or

six seperate zones, each listening to it's own thing?

DBX, Crown, Bogen are brands to explore. It can be done simply, elegantly, what have you. More info, please.

Most of the time they would be on the same programming but I also want them to be able to switch to what is on the TV in that area. I want the attenuation built into the unit so no one can mess with the individual volume for each zone once we get it set.

with amplification. Zone pro is a preamp, by the way.

MCN; you might want to visit with a supplier who is familiar with what it is you are trying to do. We're throwing spaghetti at the wall right now.

I'd also look at TASCAM. They have some interesting media room controlers with zone capability, IR and 232.

I'm partial to QSC 70v amps with the DSP strapped to the back. Makes a very nice setup and it just doesn't get any more reliable.

The 1261 has a lot of flexibility, and a nice array of zone controllers. I use them or the 641's for lots of applications. Why not, they are nearly free. marry it with a Crown CP660 and you won't be dissapointed. easy GUI also.

Is the DBX 640/641 controllable via RS232. I downloaded the owners manual and it shows using the 232 used to talk to the computer for set up but not for actual control. I'm looking at using the RTI K3 for controls this and the satellite and AM/FM or XM tuner. If they don't go with the DBX I'm quoting a Crown 180MA for one system and I'm not sure what to use tfor the other - I'm needing soemthing to do 5 pair of speakers. That DBX is pretty cool

This sounds a little out of the realm of the QSC's and Crown's of the world. Why not keep the switching and volume control to one box like a Vaux 8x8. I'm not familiar with the DBX but I trust the source.

It sounds like you want a commercial grade speaker system with a distributed home audio system. So, use some good distributed home audio equipment for your sources, switching, and volume control, and use commercial grade amps and speakers for your sound distribution. It should be fairly easy to tamper proof in a rack and with proper GUI.
