UPDATE:

In the spirit of fairness, I'd like to update you guys on a few things.

First, I emailed rob without a response BUT I may have found my problem on their website. It seems that the 2 conductor cable has a slightly stiffer jacket which makes the connector slide in smoothly BUT my 5 conductors jacket is a little more rubbery and the jacket isnt so smooth. After prepping the cable, the jacket slightly deforms, they call this mushrooming. I have found by rolling the end slightly and smoothing out the cut edge, you can feel the pin slide in. I think this may solve my problem. I hope so, I like the stuff. Planetwaves rant off for now.

Second, Sonance. I have been working with Sonance over the last few days and must say they are eager to fix the problems. They are aware of the Extreme grill issue and are rapidly working on A) Why and B) a solution.

My other rant on Sonance was about the Mariners. They are alooking into this and will correct the problem as quick as possible. I must say, I have always liked dealing with these guys as they are quick to notify of product shortages, fill orders and ship same day. I was impressed that I received a call from a product engineer last night. I wish my other vendors performed like these guys. Sonance rant off.

A$V$ Billing. Rant STILL ON! THEY PISS ME OFF!

I've been a Sonance dealer for almost 20 years. In general, I think the product line is pretty good. It's always made me money.

I have had some problems with the Mariner outdoor speakers. The speaker cones usually rot out after a year or two if exposed directly to water. Sonance is good about replacing defective or rotted out drivers. However, when a model becomes dis-continued, the drivers are not available for much longer. That's when I have an unhappy customer-- they have to buy new speakers. I'm lucky to keep the speakers going for through the 5 year warranty.

I have also had some problems with some of their other products. I have had several amplifiers fail, although generally they are pretty solid. They are really great about repairing amplifiers under warranty. I have sent five year old amplifiers for repair and they sent them back to me repaired at no cost (the warranty is only one year).

I have a problem with their line-level switching relay. There is a design flaw that I have been telling them about for ten years. You can get a big "pop" when it switches between sources. They haven't made any effort to correct the problem, at least not that I have seen.

Generally, I would say that Sonance is a good company to work with. They almost always have product in stock, and they ship the same day. A person answers the phone, not an automated attendant. And they are typically very good about repairs.
I also believe that the product is generally a good value and high-quality.

I also don't have to worry about them being in business five years from now, which a common problem in this business.

Glack,

I thought I told you about TruAudio when I first picked them up. When I heard them, they were being compared to Klipsch, which I was specifically at the dist. to pick up. They did an A/B demo for me (same sources were being used), the TruAudio blew the Klipsch away. The TruAudio sounded fuller and cleaner - not to mention, they can probably be used without a sub (TruCinema)!

Demo them and see if you can get the dist to A/B with some of your favorite speakers in that price range or spec range. I think you'll be very happy.

Thank you,
Damon DG

I recently picked up Planet Waves after working with another installer who used it. When I saw how easy it was to make those cables and saw/heard them in action, I was sold. Seeing Rob post here further reinforces my choice to use Planet Waves.

Rob: Always happy to recommend products I've had good experiences with. Please send a few packs of 7-string heavy bottom / lite top to:...haha...kidding. ;)

Thank you,
