on the RCA DRD420E I am only getting the odd transponders to come in. I tried hooking up a different SAT receiver and all transponders came in, odd and even. Does something have to be set with the RCA receivers in the menu or is it a bad piece.

This is probably due to the length of the wire from your dish to your multiswitch.

Is the proper type of dish selected in the setup menu, for the unit that does not work? What kind of dish and multi switch are you using?

all of the above. maybe.

If you are only using one receiver, with one LNB cable, the multiswitch is, well, not even in the system! So it probably is not at fault, but the receiver is bad.

If you are using a multiswitch, let us know.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Try a soft reset of the unit. Press power and UP cursor on the front panel at the same time. Hold for three seconds, and then turn on.

the key is that you put another reciever on that same line and it was getting both odd and even--did you try putting the rca somewhere else and see if the problem follows. the reciever puts out 18v for the odd transponders and 13v for when it needs an even transponder --very likely that the reciever is not putting out 13v--
could likely be bad reciever dude

CHECK YOUR FITTINGS....I had this problem turned out to be a short in the fitting.

or a short in the multiswitch.

There are ALOT of variables you must check to determine what the problem is. Check each fitting. Use a flashlight and look inside of each RG6 connector. Check any barrels you may have, and sometimes a staple driven to hard into the cable will do this. TROUBLE SHOOT EVERYTHING

I just went through three (yes, THREE!) of the RCA DRD485RG's - all of them had issues with even transponders not working properly.
I've checked voltage outputs for both even and odd transponders on the RCA's (in the 13 and 19 volt ranges even when the signal is jumping from 97 to zero and back again).
I'm running off of a simple multiswitch - the installers moved me to a different port - same issues (no one else in my building has complained of problems, but then again they don't have RCA units). Plugged in an older RCA to the same feed and it worked fine - plugged in a cheap Samsung as a temporary fix, and it seems to be fine so far.
Looks like Thomson / RCA has some issues to deal with (oh, and their on-line support hasn't responded to my emails for the past week and a half). Looks like they don't want my business very much.
