Does anyone out there have a list of manufacturers and models of Combination DVD/VCR players and Recorders with Discreet Power on and off commands?

Set up a Sony combo the other day (not by choice, called in to troubleshoot) ... no discretes for them, I can tell you that ;)

I ended up having the SYSTEM OFF just putting it in DVD mode to put it to sleep, couldn't see any other reliable way to do it.

I dis-agree. Do a search on here and you will find many threads on the topis, and Sony is one of theones that usually comes out ahead. Ive used Sony's before with luck (dicretes)
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

DVD+Play usually = power on on most of them, good enough for a work-around if you need one....

JVC and Panasonic usually have discrete P-ON and P-OFF, but I haven't played with either one recently to give you any specific guidance. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

This is absolutely true. One of the current Sony models DOES respond to discretes. I can email you a Pronto CCF if you like and then you can convert to learn from there.

Or do a search on this forum. It has been discussed before (recently)

The unit's transport commands are the same but there is a discrete "mode" command (on the factory remote) to put it into VCR or DVD mode and then the proper half of the unit wil respond accordingly. It also had discrete power on and off (not on the factory remote but on the Pronto ccf.

I have done a few Sony's, which I hate to admit. But the discretes have worked for me.

Interesting ... thanks for the info, I'll take a look and see if I can get the Sony (a SLV-D370P, as it turns out!) to respond - thanks!

The funny thing is, you have to hunt for the discretes. Not in the URC database, OK...not in the RTI database either! I complained here and someone posted the discretes. Why can't URC and RTI get the fool things?

Maybe the CURRENT JVC does have discretes but the HRXVC27 (very recent) does not seem to (again, maybe you know something I don't?) so perhaps stick to the Sony.

Fred, DVD + play may work if a disc is loaded, but if not, no response when I have tried it.

Some use eject or door open but again, it depends on if there is a disc or tape loaded whether it works.

I've reached the point where I make it a manual turn on for the folks that own StopVideos and the like. If they are loading a DVD or a tape, they have the machine on anyway. Just add a play command. (Oh wait, the play/pause is a toggle - I just put it in still mode...)

Do you think I despise those things when I see them?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
