I have a job coming up with 54 RG6 drops (2 each). I'm not about to stick 108 cables into any size OnQ panel. I have the nice rack mount units for the Cat5 and Cat6 but I haven't been able to locate one for RF terminations. Every room has at least 3 (some 6) locations so all lines will never be up and running. Clients just want to be able to move furniture at will and want a well labeled system they can make changes to. Is there a 2U or 3U RF Unit?

I have seen two solutions for you. First, OnQ makes a rack mount "enclosure" that is actually a drawer. But now that I look at it it will not work for what you are asking.

The second is either from OnQ or I have seen one from Leviton where you install wall jacks into a rack mount piece. The OnQ part# is 364576-01 and is on page 21 of the current catalog. I know this would be pricey (especially from Leviton), but not compared to doing a whole seperate can and modules and it would work for what you are trying to do. You could label each jack as to what room or plate it goes to and just make jumper cables (similiar to a network) to go to the source equipment (satellite or cable).
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

That corn thing will live on forever...

Thanks guys... I have seen the insert units and this is probably what I'll spec. I just thought there would be something already manufactured in say a 3U with 48 little RF couplers mounted nicely with room for a label. I guess I'm being too picky... the insert unit should work just fine... way better than that many cables in an enclosure.

Why not use BNC ends for easier switching and use a panel like the Canare 244U-DVJAW (4RU 144 points)?

You could use this: [Link: middleatlantic.com]
It comes in a 2 space (5 module) or 4 space (10 module) frame. Then put in as many 3/8" hole modules as needed (they are available with 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 holes each).

I would really just consider laying out exactly where you want the F connectors to be on a 4 space blank panel and pay a small local fabricator $100 to run it through the drill press and then screw in as many F barrels as needed.

It's been awhile but I believe Middle Atlantic was the source when I needed the same thing. You might want to look over into the commercial world for this. All kinds of wonderful stuff available that never make it into our standard source books.

fibercut,

THAT'S THE ONE! I think I'll start using OnQ Door extenders and mount this one in regular enclosures too... The 8 and 12 port ones they make that go sideways take up an awful lot of real estate and I'm so anal I hate unterminated cables hanging around in my boxes.

Thanks again to all who answered... this forum really helps.

I wonder how splitters and amps are going to work in this system?

That rack mount piece is pretty damn trick. Thanks for the link.

I have wanted that product for years!

A couple of times I have bought 3/4" x 3/4" aluminum angle and drilled 3/8" holes every inch or so, then mounted these on the side or top of a backboard, terminating all the runs there. This panel is so much better!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

well you don't get away with channel plus, that's for sure. The modulators we used were 60 dB out and it was just enough to overcome the loss of the super sweet rack mount commercial splitters.
