I think dealing with the Graphik Eye is besides
the point. There is no filter you are going to
be able to put on the load that will eliminate
the interference. I think that it is a better
idea to deal with the consequences than seek out
the source. And when you discover the offending
load what will you then do? Filter the mains
supply to your equipment and you will, in all,
probability solve the problem.

Alan

If the Grafik Eye is not installed correctly, he may have more than bad video images to deal with down the road.
"Well, I'm sorry the Grafik Eye burned your house down, but hey, wasn't the picture great in your home theater once I plugged the rack into a line conditioner?"

Fixing the Grafik Eye installation may or may not solve the video problem, it's true. But it's hardly "besides the point".

In the above post about "My #1 recommendation is to find an experienced and open minded electrician in your market who is also very familiar with high performance a/v systems and not just a hard headed contractor who thinks he is always right because he has a card in his pocket. (It's too bad Larry isn't Nationwide)

I can't remember when going into a job I got to pick the electrican. He usually comes with the job. Who ever the builder has been using and is happy with.

Now I can see trying to train him about problems.

I forgot about the GRX-232, good call David. Case in point, I had a buzz in an auditorium audio system; it came in on the H of the RGBHV projector at a jack plate in the podium. Everybody before me kept farting with the audio equipment and it wouldn't go away. The point is don't leave any stone unturned.

I don't think the Grafik Eye is beside the point, even though the eventual solution may have nothing to do with the Grafik Eye. I'd look at the Grafic Eye and it's circuit design first, because that may remove the problem or reduce it greatly. Then, you filter or condition with any remaining problems.

David,
I do not have any RS-232 Interfaces connected, this system is IR controlled. I'm meeting with the electrician this week and we are going to start by having him move the circuit to the other "leg/phase/???". I'll report back after that baby step.

Floating the ground will almost certainly stop
any and all ground loops caused by the mains.
I' ll leave it to othes to explain why it would
be the incorrect method of solving the problem?

Alan

Never ever i MEAN NEVER use a three prong to two prong adapter and float the ground to eliminate a visible or audible ground problem. This leaves the ground not attached and can lead to electrocution of your client or yourself. When you float the ground you eliminate the ground path.

Look at Jensen Transformers for a high quality ground problem solution.
