Any favorites, options I should look for. What are the best interfaces. Budget is open, client is willing to pay for quailty.

Looking for any feedback.

Thanks

IP cameras? AXIS 214PTZ

Standard or IP? Pelco SpecraIII (SD53CBWPE)

The Ademco Rapid Dome series look nice, especially the Nitrogen filled outdoor domes. I have never used those, but worth a look.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

IP cameras possibly,at least an IP based DVR and controller if possible.

Just installed a Panasonic PT (no Z) IP camera at my office. (BL-C10A) Setup was fairly simple, though I dont have a lot to compare it to other than a D-Link I did a while back that was a MAJOR PITA. I was also able to get it to show up on a homeLogic system interface, that is in another state. (Didnt seem to be a common request w HomeLogic, as they werent sure if it would work) I just wish I could figure out a way to record it to my HD without getting a dedicated DVR.
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

If you're installing a DVR based system, make sure to compare the combined price of the DVR and the PZT cameras.

Some companies have great pricing on DVRs, but the PZTs are salty. Other's have resonable PZTs, but the controllers cost a small fortune.

Some systems have proprietary control and others work with several brands of PZTs. Make sure that you find out ahead of time.

I've used a few rapid eye's from ademco.

Great picture!

The ademco contoller on one system failed and it was going to cost more than the msrp to fix it!($2000)

It was 5 or 6 years old and they had quit 'supporting' it!

I replaced the controller with another brand of DVR/controller that was IP based for around $350. I can e-mail you the name if you would like.

It works better than the ademco dvr!(and controls the camera).
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Panasonic has software for recording to hard drive. I think there is even a free trail when you first install the Panasonic disk. Otherwise look around the panasonic site. I had a diff model though so not sure about the bl-c10a

Check out either the Panasonic kxhcm280 or the bbhcm381; there is an optional, pelco sourced dome that works with either.

Very user friendly.

Sony makes a great PTZ IP based camera, if budget is not an issue. You can record to a remote PC and they will give you the software to do it, but I think there is a monthly maintance fee. Sony makes some of the best lenses on the market. They will send you a demo DVD that show how their cameras were used in the Scott Peterson trail and in New Orleans (pre Katrina of course).
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Only thing is, I have dealt with Sony as a consumer and as a business man.

F$%k them.

I really do appreciate your advice and I am not directing anything towards you tschulte.

Thanks everybody for the information. Give me a good primer as I learn.

Had a malfunction with the Ademco/Ozline piece the day after I said I would e-mail you!

It's located 1-1/2 hours away so I haven't checked it out yet(other than my atempt to control the ptz off-site).

You might wan't to steer clear of the Rapid Eye(Ademco)!

It just came back from repair a month ago!

Third time in 6 years(for the same camera)!

My gut say's it is broken again!

I can understand that, and I don't sell Sony A/V equipment. The camera stuff is to notch, and the lenses are incredible. I can just about gaurantee that whatever you end up with will have a Sony lense in it.

It all depends on how much control and what you want to see. The Sony stuff is incredible in the distances of the wireless and the POE stuff that they have.

What really impressed me is on the DVD the Sheriff of Meteao (sp) County (Scott Peterson trial) is holding an HP iPAQ and looking at the license plate of a car, clear as day, that is 6 blocks from the court house.

But if you don't like Sony try the Panasonic equipment.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
