I did a search on the RF extender and found a couple of ideas on how to make it better, an easy one popped out. Cover the ir blaster on the extender itself with tape and it seems to "magically" make the extender much better. I am personally sick and tired of trying to make this thing work. I need a solution that I don't have to tell my clients "if it doesn't work just try it again." I'm not a fan of IR repeater systems because that still doesn't solve the line of sight problem. I talked to a Marantz guru this week and asked him what the deal was and he told me he was working Japan over for a external antenna option to extend the range and reliability of the system. I am looking foreward to the iPronto and I really hope wireless is 100% with this product. If any of you have any suggestions as to how to make the extender work.... actually just work would be good enough for me :) thanx all.

Hey had similer problems!
I noticed that if the extender is horizontial and about the same hight as the customer as well as the remote being horizontial it gives more range!
Not a great answer but a step in the right direction.

I'll give putting the extender horizontal and at the height of the remote if I do one again, but I don't like telling some one where to hold the remote. Telling some one that is the same as using an IR extender system you have to hold the remote here and point it there.

I have a prontopro with RF extender and it works fine with my setup.
I have the RF extender on a bookshelf behind the couch aimed at the stereo rack about 8 feet away and don't use any of the IR blaster connections.
Works like a dream - 100% reliable. The RF also is completely reliable, working from 2 flights upstairs.

My RF does not even work from the next room. I have not sold one of these in a year..I have no confidence in its abilities.

Don't ya just love how well they work?
I just tell the client, "If it doesn't work the first time you try it, stand on one foot, raise your left hand, extend your right arm towards the stack of equipment, construct a headset antenna from aluminum foil with 2 six inch antennas (one near the forehead, one near the back of the head), PRAY, then try it again."
Seriously, you can't expect much from a cheap RF system. We've had RF problems with more expensive remote systems (Lexicon 700TRF), and found that it's really an art to get consistancy and reliability.
We are in the process of moving to Crestron, not that that will be the fix-all, but I heard no complaints about RF with Crestron.

We are in the process of moving to Crestron, not that that will be the fix-all, but I heard no complaints about RF with Crestron. We have had great luck with Crestron one-way rf panels, with reliable, consistent performance in the 200' + range. Two-way panels are a different story, and now I'm saying 30' when they say 50'.

So what does work? We do Elan VIA pannels and when I get them programed they are 100%. But they are also wired! I really hope the iPronto and its 802.11b system of transmision works well. Is Crestron really the only way to go when you want 100%? I just did another RF extender today and it works 100% when I have the RC5200 |

Well atempted another RF extender today and that was the last one I'll do, it literally only worked when it was 6 inches away, when I put it in the celing above where I was sitting not more than 3 feet above my head it did nothing. NO MORE that was the last. I want to be Crestron certified.
