Call me old fashioned, but I am just now making the change to compression connectors. I am in the market for a new compression tool, and was wondering what you thought about the Digicon 213859. Is this one of the better tools for the job? If there is something else you would recommend, please do. Thanks.

I use the Paladin Seal Tight Pro, very versitile. I have used the Liberty crimp tool, which looks just like the Digicon. Not sure what it is at the moment, great tool as well. I like the Paladin because it is adjustable, purples or RCA compressions in the field.

The digicon is on the heavy side and requires two hands. A basic paladin ($35) is what I keep in my main bag, because it's narrow and long and it's possible to do the compression with one hand. You free hand can be used to keep the alignment perfect before it slams together. Thomas and betts made a scissor one that was also good, but it's x shape didn't go easy into most bags. Also, you'll find that there's not a lof of variance between connector brands, but there's a lot more varieties of coax.

What ever that piece is from A%$D is what we have all been issued. It does the job but you need two hands to compress.

For general TV/Sat work we use the T&B IT1000. It is expensive but includes a stripper as well. Much easier to carry one toll than two. For RCA & BNC connectors we use a Platinum SealSmart (these are the same guys that make the EZ-RJ45 connectors). It is about the same price as the Paladin. The sell the connectors in either small bubble packages, or large bags. The one neat thing that we have not tried yet is the 90degree connectors. I want to try these for plasmas. [Link: platinumtools.com]I also got a stripper/tool set from A&* for mini RGB. I think it is from GEM Electronics or something like that. Works good once you get the stripper set right. I am not thrilled with the connectors though. The wire is so small and brittle that you think you have everything perfect and the connector falls off.

As long as you are switching over, please take a look at the AudioQuest tool-less cable and connectors. They work unbelievably well. They are faster, simpler, much more reliable and you can re-use the connectors if you need to shorten the cables or made a bad connection. Before we switched, bad compression connections were our #1 reason for service calls and wasted products.
I have also heard great things about the Planet Waves product.

we use canare for a/v and snap and seals for coax....sorry cant be more help

Canare for RCA and BNC. SNS for F. Playing with the Audioquest ITC. Quite impressed so far and termination time is less than half.
