Hi all, what are the possibilities to mount a Pioneer model such as the PDP-4360HD over a fireplace or other location remote from the A/V gear? I've heard Pioneer has extension cables, but is burying their (expensive?) cables in-wall the way to go? It doesn't seem possible to use coax cabling as with other component video installations with these sets with media receivers. Thoughts appreciated...

Key Digital also makes longer cables. This is the only way to do this.

I used a 30 meter piece from pioneer 2 years ago. I think it retailed $1700. Defintely a deal breaker and would force me to look elsewhere for a panel.

The Key piece is less expensive then the Pioneer. Did you really mean thirty meters, or thirty feet? Key does thirty and fifty foot versions....

Yeah man - 30 meters. I was 2 multi mode fibers, and a couple of cables. Pulled it thru 80' of 1 1/4" Carlon pipe with a lot of bends in it. It worked like a charm. Good thing was the customer supplied the panel and realized he screwed himself. It hurt me to bill him that kind of dough for the cable.

We sell dozens of these and use the KDS extension cables. Knock on wood, no problems yet.

interesting timing, these guys have been calling a lot lately looking for my business. the conversation always started with a sales pitch for a $40 plasma mount bracket.

they just didn't really seem all that legit to me. perhaps I'll look again

My boss found snap av a couple months ago looking for the longer pioneer cables, had 1 bad 15 meter, and probably about 15 good ones so far. As far as their "Strong" mount, it is only worth 40 bucks... Works great on the perfect installation, but how many of those do we get? Ive had to modify probably about 5 of em just to mount it to the dang plasma... The old adage stands true, you get what you pay for...

Do the longer cables come with the connectors already installed?

Just curious as in looking at the stock connectors on mine , I am left wondering how large a hole or conduit I would need to get the connector through.

Thanks in advance,

Well, you are running digital video 100'.... and it worked...correct?

Doesn't matter what panel you sell, if you want to run HDMI or DVI over that distance, you should be using fibre.... (or cat5 solution I suppose)

And in the defence of Pioneer plasma's and the "dreaded" media box... don't forget the benefits:

1) Only one cable in the wall, and you are ready for anything: composite, s-video, vga, hdmi/dvi

2) Reliability benefits due to heat reduction in panel enclosure.

3) Increased serviceability. Most likely any near-future service issues will be in media receiver and NOT panel itself.

4) (pioneer) IR link and RS232 control at media box, so you don't have to stick a flasher on the set (my personal pet peeve with many mfgrs. You can use RS232 with an RF remote (ie RTI), OR you can use the panel as a giant IR receiver (if all other components are pioneer)

5) 3 yr warranty on Elite versions.
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
