The company showed a prototype 52W-inch model at the recent Electronic House Expo held in Orlando, featuring 1080p resolution with high contrast and brightness levels.

NûVision said it plans to ship its “Deep Black LED DLP” line with a 52W-inch model, possibly this summer. A 58W-inch model will follow at a time to be announced.

The company’s Deep Black LED rear projection sets will utilize individual red, green, and blue super bright LEDs to replace conventional lamps and color wheels. The LED’s light output is controlled through a proprietary Digital Switching Deep Black (DSDB) system, which produces deeper blacks by precisely controlling the LED output during dark scenes, instead of depending on the DLP chip to close off light to produce blacks, as most lamp-based DLP sets do.

The technology is said to offer a wider color gamut resulting in deeper colors exceeding NTSC color gamut specifications.

Adjustable white point and color optimization is also said to provide “a new level of grey scale and color precision never before available.”

Other benefits of using an LED light source are: elimination of visible rainbow patterns caused by a color wheel, longer life, instant on/off operation, low voltage requirements, and high brightness and contrast performance

I have not seen it yet, but we are dealers for them and I have been pretty excited to see this set for a couple weeks now. Especially since we are Epson dealers and they decided not to sell their new RPTVs in the States.

Samsung is also scheduled to ship a 56 in dlp rear pro this summer using LED technology. Those who saw it at CES say it looked very good.

I saw the Samsung at CES, and it did look good. My only concern is longevity of those LED's. I know that in practice LEDs should last quite a long time, but I've never seen reports on high-output LEDs before.

Anyone wanna take a stab at the tech specs for them?

20,000 hours is what has been talked about. Guess we'll see.

Someone in the NuVision booth told me 50,000 hours. I do not know if he worked there or if he had just put away the crack pipe but 20,000 or 50,000 is pretty impressive! I was pretty amazed at the picture. I think I was a little more blown away by the Brillian LCOS. Maybe that was because the NuVision was just a prototype.

Ever see all the new traffic lights that have LED arrays instead of the old incandescents? LEDs drop out in scattered random fashion....it'll be fun to watch these new sets and hear what all the salesmen's urban legends that arise...
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I recently did an article on LED lighting, and claims of 50,000 + hours are correct.

As a side note, when manufacturer's figure out how to make LEDs produce true white light (the white's now available have a very blue cast) you'll then see them selling a lot more incandescent light bulbs.

Dawn: From what I have been able to find out, LEDS maintain the same brightness untill they die. Is this correct?

Couldn't they simply add a 'filter' to the white LEDs to shift them more neutral or warm?

Fred:
A couple of years ago we (Metra/eTHEREAL) spent quite a bit of time AND money on this for resi. lighting.
Not as simple as that

Brent,

Interesting, that topic never came up, but it probably is true.

Fred,

Not really because they actually combine three color LEDs to make white. They are working on it though.

Duh....I didn't have my thinking cap on. I know better then to assume there's a while LED in there. Additive principle and all.

Anyway, anyone seen them in the field yet? Just curious.
