Who here loads CDs to music servers for their clients, and what do you use. This is something that we are getting asked to do more and more, and the one disc at a time option just will not work.

Thanks in advance.

There is a service here in Long Island that will do it for you. the cost is about a $1.00 a CD.

Im not sure where you are located but do a google and see what comes up in your area.

Does anyone have a simpilier way of loading the CDs as wavs? I try to get my people to stay with WAV if they want the best sound.

Why not recommend Flac, it's a lossless compression and will make the file 30-50% smaller

What do most on here do for this? Do it in house, or farm it out?

If you do it in house, do you charge for it, and "line item" it, or just quote $X00 for X00 CD's?
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

We use the Via DJ / Xiva based device which works with a Powerfile C200s 200 Disc loader. The thing's a piece of crap.

For some customers we do it no charge - depending on how much they had already spent on the job. Most of the time we get about $1 per disc even though I know that's way too cheap. I believe going rate is about $2. Check out Riptopia.com. They have a deal for integrators. I still haven't called them yet.

You could follow the $x.xx per CD, like the ripping houses do or charge your hourly rate. Between those two options, determine which method works best for you and your customers.

The ripping houses do tend to offer nice presentations, as well as good backups on DVD, etc. Depending on the turnaround time and if they're willing to part with their entire catalog of CDs for that duration.

Thank you,
Damon DG

I second that. A WAV file requires far more bandwith for streaming and Flac sounds just as good as a wave. Of course many people are going to tell you that mp3 at 128 bit sounds good too and they aren't wrong, but I personaly use Flac at home as I'm streaming to a fairly hefty hi-fi system.

Are you able to maintinn the same accuracy as some place like this?

Not just ripping, but cover art, grooming, "Greatest hits" issues, etc?

FYI - there's a program I use for my iPod called Media Monkey. It's really cool...gets cover art, song names, etc. It needs a bit of guidance to ensure you are getting the right info, but it works nicely. I believe there's a free version to check out.

Thank you,
