I'm doing some bids on a couple moderate priced Theaters... Was thinking of using the Epson 550... Took one home, looked pretty good, but seemed to lack color "punch"... Anyone set up or play with the Infocus IN76 yet??? It's in the same price range (msrp $3K)...

We have had 2 so far. Very nice projector with a great picture for the money. We just compared it to a Optoma HD72 and three of us preferred the Infocus. Hopefully, we will be able to compare it to the Samsung 710 next week. I haven't seen the Epson 550 but have seen the 500 and would choose the Infocus. The Epson and Infocus is really a LCD vs. DLP debate and each technology has it advantages and disadvantages.

In 76 is supposed to be a 7205 guts for the most part, right? Chip from the 7205 rather then the 10.

Same DLP chip, but pretty much thats it. Different scaler, different optics, obviously a different chassis. Different inputs etc. It is a nice projector for the $$ for sure.

Case and inputs for sure... didnt' know about different optics or scaler. Stopped using Fra... will have to look a little closer at the sheet for this. Localhasn't had one out of the box we can play with yet.

4805/5700/7205/7210 use the Faroujda DCDi processor. All of the IN series use Pixelworks processors. Don't really know much about Pixelworks, but obviously it must be less expensive for Infocus. Optics aren't specifically listed but when we had the demo, our rep said different optics in IN series, again, most likely less expensive.

Rep brought by 2 of the new projectors. The $3000 model and the $1300 model. The HD model looked pretty decent. It produced black pretty well as far as the color goes but we all thought there was a lot of detail missing in the black objects such as wrinkles in a leather coat etc...etc....

Personally we have been using the Hitachi HDPJ52 HD projector. It is a 3-chip LCD that retails for $3200. They are super quiet (our showroom model you can't hear it running over the ambient noise in the room). Black levels could be a little better but there is good detail in the picture.

The IN76 uses the smaller chip, 0.6" while the 7205 and 7210 uses 0.8".
the color wheel is 6 Seg. 4x speed in the IN76 while its 7Seg. 5x speed in the 7205 and 7210.
I saw the smaller Epson 200+ i think and the IN76 is better picture if the screen is not too large also have longer life of bulb.

I don't know if this matters to the discussion, but I am usually VERY sensitive to the rainbow, and the IN76 did not bother me at all...

I still think the JVC D-ILA blows the single chip DLPs away, but I can buy two of the IN76s for the same money as one D-ILA HX2U...

I am also waiting for the lower priced three chip DLPs...
InfoComm is coming up the first week in June, we will have to see what happens!!
