If you have experience in line coding than AMX will be fairly simple to learn and master. If you do not you may never get the hang of it or it will take thousands of hours of time. Syntax alone can be strange, especially if you get compiler errors becasuse you left out a " or a , or a ; or a { or more likely a } Then there will be decipher the left, midstring, atoi and itoa commands or dealing with structures or functions,

Crestron's Simpl is far easier to grasp and use for those without line coding experience becuase it is a) boolean, b) like a circuit and c) fits into our experience as trouble shooters or equipment repair and d) has not syntax. However, once you become comfortable with arays it can become very efficient mode of coding although I can often code more quickly using Simpl using a truth table than by resorting to IF/Else or Do/Until statments.

In sum, prepare for some very had work and study.

I don't know how you guys look at this stuff for
8 hours a day... I need glasses.

Of distilled spirits, that is.

NO, NO, NO! do not have glasses of distilled spirits when programming. I was doing a big whole house AV, lighting system all controlled via different panels and had a few to many beers while programming. The next day it took me a couple of hours to figure out what the hell i had done. Feel free to drink and program but there are repercussions. (Hangovers, compile errors, endless loops)

So I can program macros to be executed while the button is pressed and program also macros when a button
is depressed.

What's the difference between pression and depression?

I assume he means pressed or released. The answer is yes and even while you press and hold or press and hold longer or press and hold still longer. You can do anything which does not inherently mean it is wise or good program design. That is the benefit of a real control system which is what you get with AMX or Crestron. You can do anything you can imagine assuming you have the talent to interpret that idea as code. Some things roll off the tongue very easily but are rather more complicated to code.
