By default I've pretty much been using Leviton's quickport jacks, but am starting to wonder if I should ditch these for the more standard "keystone" form factor? Would like to hear how many of you use quickport, vs. those that use keystone ... any significant advantage to one over the other?

For the most part the quickport stuff has been working pretty well for us, but I will say the one thing that's always bugged me about them is that they *don't* have a jack with F-connector on the inside and RCA on the outside ... whereas I see this option available in the "keystone" format from a number of manufacturers.

That, and their Cat5e/6 jacks are bl**dy expensive...

I too have been thinking about changing from Leviton to "????".

I most likely have about $500 worth of Leviton pieces in stock. Enough for day to day piddly stuff, but not really enough to do a structured wiring trim out.... But enough to not take the plunge and switch....

I can't tell you about the other choices, but I will add to Leviton pros and cons...

PRO:
While I place an exact order for each trim out, I guess I went with Leviton because it seemed like it was the most widely available, and in a pinch I could even pick up a couple pieces at Home Depot if needed . (Sorry, I meant to type H*M* D*P*T)

CON:
The plates seem to be small. Often there is a gap after installation that needs to be patched. The work around is to use the decora plates, but that means more stock and a little more effort to install....

CON:
Lately it seems every house has a home office that needs brown and sometimes I have a hard time getting the brown quickly.

CON:
I too would love an RCA with F on the the back.

Good thread, looking forward to the responses.

Netarc, what brand can do you use?

I started with Leviton but had terrible problems matching the almond color. Yeh, I know Pass & Seymour is light almond and can't be matched by Leviton, but I even have problems matching Levitons high voltage almond plates with their low voltage almond. Its a different shade. I have even compared different Leviton almond low voltage plates at the distributor and found color differences.
Most of the electricians around here are using P&S light almond and the only perfect match for that is P&S or Greyfox. The problem I have with those is there is no phone keystone. I know I can use the cat5 key but I have visions of a client plugging his $2000 portable PC into a phone jack and blowing his network card.
I have been using ICC lately, its not a perfect color match with light almond but is close enough that I have had no complaints. They have a wide variety of colors and F-RCA with red, blue, green, yellow or white bands. They also make a key with just a hole, I use that to make my own F, RCA or speaker keys. Pricing is a little better than Leviton.

Yes they will. One thing I have always liked about ICC is the cat5 keystones are very easy to terminate because it has all of the connections in a straight line just like on the modules in the structured wiring cans. Only issue I have ever had is with the decora style 4 port plates where you have to put both cat5 keystones on one side and the F inserts on the other, AFTER you cut a small piece from the F inserts.

We use panduit and avaya. Products have worked very well for us. 90% of the time we do the electrical side on the job too so we match the electrical face plates to the LV.

The good folks at F-Conn are offering interesting options you may want to explore. Using a cable pro tool, they offer leviton quick port compatible jacks at a very fair price that allows the installer to compress a coax cable onto an f or rca fitting, with the entire assembly fitting into a quick port plate.

At least one distributor I know offers brown decora style quick ports, with trims, f, voice and data in stock.

Uh, guys, Leviton "Quickport" are technically keystone. We use both Leviton and OnQ/Legrand (Greyfox or Pass & Seymour) keystone. We have to use the Leviton for a certain builder (it is a long story), but we use OnQ/Legrand for everyone else. The jacks & plates (or as P&S calls them taps & plates) are interchangeable between Leviton and OnQ/Legrand. We use the RJ45 jack in OnQ/Legrand for phones with no problems. We use blue jacks for network and white/ivory/light almond for phone. Only had one problem and it didn't blow the network card it just made lots of noise through the phones (kind of like receiving a fax ALL the time).

Leviton makes a 6 port decora, and OnQ/Legrand doesn't. OnQ/Legrand makes Light Almond, and Leviton doesn't. OnQ/Legrand is much cheaper, Leviton is available everywhere. OnQ/Legrand plates are made with vinyl and will not snap, Leviton is made with PVC and will. So there are cons and pros to both.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I have become quite partial to the keystones from
http://www.pimfg.com . They also have some other interesting items. Take a look at the knock of Sanus plasma mount. It is basically identical for less than half the price.

I've heard of ICC - thought I saw it on the line card for a company way back when, but have no idea now. Any recommendations on where to source ICC stuff?

Are you certain? Most of the "keystone" jacks I've seen look significantly larger than Leviton's quickport stuff ... granted, I've never actually tried to stick a standard keystone jack in a Levition decora quickport frame; they seem so much larger that I'd always just assumed they were different.

Is it possible the OnQ/Legrand stuff is not the standard "keystone" form-factor, and made to be Leviton-compatible?

Here you go ... looks like they're avail in almond, ivory, black & white:

Only concern is that they appear not to be available in gold plate ... but that could be a non-issue, depending on who you talk to.
