The main unit is a Panasonic D1232 with probably 10 or so hardwired handsets and a few cordless units as well. A front door intercom is tied into the system as well as a gate call box, both ring through the phone system. Problem is whenever someone is on line 1 and the door bell rings, it either rings over the conversation on line 1 or drops the call.

I don't do phone systems, but this particular client is not getting any satisfaction out of their current phone company and wanted me to see if I could find out any information. What better place to look for answers than here! I realize that this problem may not be fixable in this way, but thought I would give it a try.

Thanks in advance...

The gate and door intercom are they from Panasonic?

Most Gate systems have their own switch and ring circuit, I bet it is placed before the KSU and causing you problems. You might need a Analog to digital adapter. OH Fred, where are u?

Got a Picture?
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

So, what exactly is the door box and gate box set up?

Thanks for the input so far. I will take some pictures today and post this weekend.

The gate box is a DK, and the door intercom looks like channelvision, but i will confirm that if possible.

Does the gate box have a Keypad? If it doesn't then you can take out the guts out of box of then adapt the guts from a panasonic door intercom. If it does have a keypad then you will need to determine if you can isolate the intercom part from the keypad circuit and if you have enough space inside the box use the panasonic door intercom board. Must of those gate boxes need to seizure the phone line; meaning that you need to go first to the gate box with the CO line and the output of the box goes to the phone system. I have never played with a door king before.

Determining what you have is the key.

If the product is, as I suspect, designed to run on top of an incoming CO, like the Viking, Door Bell Fon or Valcom pieces, you need to assign it to an unused CO and program the KSU to ring appropriately.

If the product is interfacing through the Panasonic door intercom station, you've got a real interesting problem. Unless someone looped an unused extension out to the co port and made a parallel connection, which makes no sense whatsoever, I suspect your situation is caused by scenario number one.

Fred is on track as he usually is. I've used the Viking piggybacked onto a line into a KSU with no problem but it was a Norstar system not Panasonic. i would guess it is the parallel arrangement of two door box systems that is causing the problem. The unused CO line position should work the best but two systems in parallel might flumox that as well.
