...is just such a freakin' beautiful cable! On yet another install I realized I needed a few sets of .5m component cable, but didn't have any onhand ... whipped out the 1694 and some RG6 ICM connectors (I know, I should've used 1505a - didn't have any onhand).

Everytime I work on the Belden stuff I'm stunned by the construction of the cable ... the braid's tight, and ridiculously easy to work with!

Thanks, Belden! :)

Slap some Canare RCAP-C53s on it and you'd be on to something.

Canare connectors are very good. Their RCA's are the closest match to a correct 75 ohm video connection that I've seen.

Belden cable is of excellent quality. You won't find that some day they decide to slip some garbage cable made in some 4th world company past you. Their cable is actually sweep tested on the spool. This is the kind of thing that Belden's competitors don't even think about doing.

I used to use the belden "banana peel" cable. Ran into a batch problem on 4 spools we purchased. So you peel off the outer jackets to find that all of the pairs were "fused" together. Really slowed down trim time.
Since then, we have switched to the genesis "profusion" cable. Do not have to peel off the "membrane" anymore, just untwist. Great cable!!!
I do like the Belden mini RGB cable tho. Easy to work with.

I think the combo of Beldon 1694a and the Canare RCA connectors is the best there is.

Don't get me wrong, it is expensive. the start up cost of Canare is a bet overwhelming but worth the price.

Are the Canare RCA connectors a hex-crimp type, or are they attached using a linear compression-type tool?

Hex crimp, but are tight enough to form a mechanical weld.

That's not a "batch problem", it's a different SKU from Belden...
They make the Banana Peel structured wiring cable in several flavors. With and without fiber, and with bonded pair UTP (what you are describing) or with non-bonded pair UTP.

Many companies that offer Category rating verification on all runs use the bonded pairs because it maintains the twisting more evenly through bends than non-bonded UTP which can open up in twists.

If you were using the kind w/out fiber, you got the bonded UTP spools (7876-S), when it sounds like you wanted the non-bonded UTP spools (7913-S)...

I have also had fusion problems with Belden structured cables. It only happened in some spots on the cable but it freaked me out during finish when I found it on the 6" I had to work with coming out of the box. Got it to work tho.

Any recommendations for Belden CAT cable? I finally saw the light on quality cable, and have an order in for the Belden coax, and as soon as I use up the remainder of my CAT, I want to switch that, too...

Thanks,

Fred

Belden Cat is all we use..
However, we did a commercial job recently where we needed Plenum Cat and fast.. We picked up ESSEX brand CAT5 in a box. We were extremely impressed with the quality.
I'll let you know tomorrow..

Any chance you have the SKU and specs for the cable you're using? I'm looking for quality CAT-5e stuff.

Thanks,

Fred

Belden is the way to fly if you need consistant performance you can count on, however pricey! I do use Liberty wire and ConnecTec which are also very good!
