Do any of you put the security panels in racks, for a more "centralized" install? Or do you keep them seperate?
No, its not a rsck mountable panel, but the current job is using a Channel Plus 2619 panel that replicates a "can" mount. So, putting the security panel in there would be no bog deal. Is there a safety or "regulation" reason to NOT put them in the rack?

Absolutely NOT.
Just a Bunch of wires that have no business being mixed up in AV. I dont want the alarm guy having to work around my A/V systems and I'm certain he doesnt want me in/Around his security box for anything other than Getting my RS485 connection done.
Same Room/Area.... Sure..... Same Rack... Nope.

Same Room/Area.... Sure..... Same Rack... Nope. Well, I'd say yes and no to that. I personally wouldn't put it in the rack. I also install the security if I am running an automation gig and therefore don't have to worry about the "alarm" guy in my A/V rack but I'd fight tooth and nail to keep someone out of the rack if the circumstances were different. Especially sat. and cable installers. Those guys seem to love to get into gear that they apparently don't know the first thing about. If any of you are sat. or cable guys, no offense meant. Just the way I see it.

I installed the security, and dont see a reason why anyone else would need to get in there. If any of you are sat. or cable guys, no offense meant. Just the way I see it. No offense taken. Ive seen some doozies as well.

Same Room/Area.... Sure..... Same Rack... Nope. Agreed. I absolutely want them in the same location, but not in the rack. Security systems are not known for their sophistication in regard to RF/EMI, so you may have issues with the panel causing interference with another component, or vice versa. Also, I like having the security hardware in it's own locking metal enclosure.

We always put the alarm system in the same room but never inside a rack... A couple 4x8 sheets of plywood painted white, phone system, alarm, structured wiring can etc... AV racks right next to it... Acutally looks pretty sweet 100k system RIGHT there in one spot... I suppose it would be an excuse for another slim 5 and a custom panel that matches the security box, maybe another keypad mounted on a 5 space blank or something, Ill have to try to get the sales guys to start pitching it, I like the idea personally... I try harder to keep away from alarm wires when pre-wiring than I do from high voltage... Ever take the sensor from your tone set and pass it by the alarm panel?

my security prewires go in with the structured wiring (phone, data, cable) in its own can. our av prewires goto wherever the main source equipment goes but never in same cans or rack as phone data cable security

Have you ever run a telephone tone sensor next to an alarm wire while toning out wires? I hear a buzz, or an on and off repeating burst of buzzing. I wouldn't want that in the same rack as any audio gear!
Once had an install of a Sony RF-controlled satellite receiver under the stairs next to the alarm panel and the Panasonic phone system. The alarm panel was hard-wired with no RF at all.
Well, something coming from the phone or alarm interfered with the Sony remote at 418 mHz badly enough that remote range was only 10 to 20 feet!
Keep 'em apart.
