I have a number of items in a few different rooms that I want to control with 1 remote and I was wondering if there was anything available to me under £100 to do what I want and also some advice as to what is the best for my money. Here are the things I want to control in order of importance:

SKY+ Box
Philips TV
Pioneer DVD + Dolby digital sound system
Panasonic Stereo (CD hifi)
LCD TV (in another room)
Flat screen TV in Bedroom
Video Recorder
Normal SKY Digi Box in bedroom

Now is there one remote in my price range that I can program in all these things and just take around with me from room to room?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You could try the Clicker Picker feature on this site.

Or you could go right out and buy a Universal Remote Control MX-350. I keep them and use them a lot for all kinds of installations. There is probably a review of it on this site too.

Why not have a remote in each room? Wouldn't that be better?

Also do you want to control all these things from any room? Or only some things in some rooms?

Do you want to be able to use macro commands?

As you can see, it is not always that simple.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

Dude....what is your problem? URC IS GREAT! I guess you would sell him a T2+? He was just recomended a $150 DIY remote.

Given what this guy asked, I cannot see what is wrong with an MX-350.

Sure, I have read others woes with the RF. I have never experienced it yet.

Go to bed earlier Vincent ;-)

URC is just fine for IR, it's RF that people are having trouble with. I have had freezes with the MX3000 but we're talking about the 350 here.

URC builds a great product.

I've had a minimum of problems with RF.

My 'trouble' stemmed from a conversation I overheard in a resteraunt between a client and his friend!

It had nothing to do with the quality of the product.

If you have one remote, you will have to put a patch of velcro on the back of your hand to attach it to. Otherwise, you will put it down, then go to another room and wonder where the heck the remote is. It is a small step from doing that repeatedly to having a remote for each room.

If you have a remote for each room, you don't have to program all the systems into each remote. I have a client with two T2+s working via RF, one for upstairs and one for down, and they haven't yet put on the labels they said THEY wanted to put on. I'm waiting for the service call when they both end up in one room, or get reversed.

Also do you want to control all these things from
any room? Or only some things in some rooms?

Good arguments for a single remote or multiples, depending on your answer.

Do you want to be able to use macro commands?

If you do not use macros, then your remote is no better than several independent remotes. The difference would be that you only have to pick up one remote; you still would have to switch that remote from controlling one component to controlling another, and that concept is as difficult for some people as knowing which remote to pick up. Macros rule. That's a puerile statement but it says it all.

As you can see, it is not always that simple.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
