Double post (IP) but looking for some advice.

With all the RF remote interference folks have had to troubleshoot w URC, I'm looking for RF interference diagnosis techniques.

I have a job Im working on that has (2) Dish net dual tuner DVR's (model 622 and 625) The IR remotes work fine.

The RF remotes for TV 2 work VERY poorly. (NOT just when using BOTH of them) Im not just takling "range sucks". By poorly I mean you LITERALLY have to be within FEET of the receiver for the UHF side of the remote to work.

Weve swapped the 622, and it seemed to help, but not for long. Weve tried different remote adresses, new remotes, different style remotes, etc.

Last week I had my tech take out a URC MRF300 w an RXF150 to "sniff" for RF interference. For verification, the light showed NO interference at the showrrom. He took it to the customers house, and had a solid light ANYWHERE in the house. Some spots were better than others, but it never went off. He cut circuit breakers one by one, in hopes of finding the source. He even disconnected the cable modem/VOIP feed going to the house (I think 384mhz, see below, is a cable frequency)The light never quit, indicating the source is likely external.

So he called it a day until we could do some more research. I have since been able to get the frequency of the dish remotes, which is supposedly 384mhz. (I heard another frequency referenced for older dish rf remotes)

My intentiion tomorrow is to go back with my RF meter [Link: metrictest.com] and use a "whip" antenna hooked up to my meter, looking in the 384 mhz range. Will this work? I tried it at the office, and I get no db signal increase when monitoring that range w the antenna hooked up. HOWEVER, I ALSO get no db signal increase when monitoring WITH THE REMOTE ACTIVE. (buttons pressed)

I CAN use the meter to attempt to locate the source of (or verify it DOES exist) the rf interference cant I? Am I going about this the wrong way?

FWIW, I have had "range" issues with these remotes before, but never a need to be ON TOP OF THE IRD for them to work. Usually the range can be corrected by re-positioning the remote antenna, adding a jumper to the remote antenna and bringging it OUT of the cabinet, or worse case using a diplexer and moving the remote ENTIRELY to the "TV2" room.

FWIW(2) All of Indianapolis's major netowrk TV towers are within about a mile or two from the house in question. Relevant?
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

I have had some success with URC products by taking the antenna off completely to reduce sensitivity. This will limit the range of the remote but works pretty well in the same room. I have also mounted the RF receiver below the seating area in the basement and run the IR output to a Xantech 789-44 mounted by the equipment.

IR is not an option on the TV2 tuners. Wish it was then I could at least hve a last resort with some IR inserted over coax or similar. But the tuners respond ONLY to UHF
