Sorry, couldn't resist. I actually like Cantons,
but at my shop, they are persona non grata - everyone
struts a goose step and says "Bright German Speakers
Heil!".

Have you considered Dynaudio? or B&W? Can't tell
you if they're metal tweeters (never checked)
but definitely not bright...

Thanks for the info on the Cantons! I'm actually demo'ing them for myself on Friday, so I'll pay close attention. Re: the B&Ws, they also have metal tweeters. Dynaudio's don't, but I figured these would be mucho expensive, not to mention hard for me to obtain (not a Dynaudio dealer).

Oh!!! what is he going to be using for an
AMP & CD / DVD player???

Halo C2 pre/pro, Halo A51 amp; DVD player will likely be the Panny S97 or S77; CD player has yet TBD (actually, anyone have any suggestions for a universal SACD/DVDA carousel player?)

Canton not sounding bright? Now that's
news!

Stanley's comment about electronic gear got me to thinking - DJNORM, what electronics (amp, in particular) were used when you folks were demo'ing the Canton speaker?

That was my Homer Simpson response to realising that Rotel is Japanese!!!

Honestly, I don't think anyone at my shop has given them an honest listen since the eighties... Like I said - I liked them, but I also haven't heard them in quite a while (maybe the early nineties), so don't put TOO much weight on my comments...

They are still a bright speaker, but not so bad that it can't be tuned out or leveled with the right source supplies. A good set of Karats......they rock, I mean, really rock.
Gunga.....Gunga....GU-Lunga

And since Ernie won't keep count, I will. Hes up to 249, and counting.

NADs all overseas. Early was designed in US built in Taiwan, but I think that's even gone away. Did warranty work on them for awhile and I think only the early stuff was noteworthy.

Cambridge? That can't be anything but far east manufacture.

YMMV.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

You are not crazy. Rotel IS a British company but that doesn't mean they don't outsource to China for manufacturing....which they do :-(

Triad's are great, We spec them on almost every project. You will need a sub though.
We dont sell Totem ( dont need to support another speaker line ) but they are amazing.

Rotel is not and has never been a British company. They are owned by a family in Japan and own factories in China where the product is built. The do get parts from the UK (mostly power supplies) and do tend to sound more british then say Denon/Marantz but that doesn't make them British. I use to run Club Rotel over on the HTGuide site and am still friendly with their VP and this question used to come up all the time on that board.

You are all wrong!

Rotel is an American company.
Their first factory was in Elsa, Texas.

Well well...that bloke who sold me the RB981 lied to me then.

FS: (1) gently used Rotel RB981 manufactured in China, which may or may not contain parts from Ethiopia, purchased in the U.S. from a British guy who said I was one of his mates. $150 OBO

dpva59, That's hilarious, I think I have some of that in the cubbard at home.
