I am posting this because I am building a theater for a spec home that should be done in july. I am debating on putting in a Toshiba HD-A1 in for the main player. There will be a sony 777 in the rack for the distribution. I know the bla bla bla about HD-DVD and BLU-ray. But the first HD-DVD players are here (at $499 MSRP) and Blu-ray seems to be a bit off (at least Fall 06 - along with PS3). I do like the price of where it's at. Originaly we spec'd in a Denon 2910 but the builder likes the idea of HD-DVD(and, yes I have throughly explained to him the diffrences between HD and BD), but is letting me make the final decision. We have put in room in the rack for more componets. And if need be, like HD-A1 doing a CES on us, we can still put in the 2910 and still come out ok.

I just wanted to bounce this off of you guys and see what your opinion was on this idea.

Thanks in advance.

The HDMI format that will be needed for true 1080P is HDMI 1.3 That won't be out 'till the end of the year. Any early adopters of these 2 formats will be out in the cold using HDMI 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2. Hollywood has just oo much say at this point, so don't be in a hurry. Denon, & LG are waiting to introduce products to see how this unfolds. That is the big reason PS3 is delayed. X-Box is screwed in its current form.

Sony announced a BD roll-out on May 23. The first BD player out of the gate will be from Samsung. No pricing yet.

The install is for a EPSON Cenima Pro 800 that's 720p. So the 1080p problem is irrelevant to the theater.

I just went to a Denon training and they explained to us pritty well what's going on in the HD disc community. They also explained why Denon was somewhat waiting for the HDMI 1.3.
