Just received a call from a client saying they have no picture or sound from their Hughes HD receiver. First I check other sources and we have audio (except Sat) and no video. Upon manually pressing the power button of the Panasonic 50" plasma the power led turns green then flashes red 4 or 5 times. First I think no video signal then the client informs me there is a burnt smell coming from the lower left corner near the power button. No heat at the plasma.
How this relates to the Sat I'm not sure yet, I should at least be getting audio if it's only the Plasma. Checked the russoundca6.4 and their is no audio for distributed audio of the Sat either.
The 2 problems are probably not related. By the way the Pronto is doing all the work so I know inputs are being change correctly.
Oh, the system was working fine until the misses changed the audio station on the sat. (yea right)
Any input on the plasma issue would be appreciated.
Plasma is approx. 3 months new.
I'd like to get any possible input before going out in the morning. (not very familiar with Plasma issues)at all)
Many Thanks,
CMack

We had a Pioneer plasma do the same thing...power on, LED flashes 5 times, pauses 5 times again. We went through 2 at one house. The owner was doing electrical work and zapped them both as far as we know. No burnt smell though.

Can't say it's electrical problem related (although it sounds like it), but we install whole house sure protection and a good surge protector at the plasma. If possible a Primax 5300.. Or in wall outlet protector.. Have not had a single plasma failure. That would keep me up at night!..

I also wouldn't rule out problems related to static electricity if they have a problem there, although they are using a pronto... Did you sleep well last night?

I would invest in a power monitor / data logger and leave it on the line and check for anomalies.

Have electricians been working in the house at all? Even to replace a switch? In the building, in the subdivision? Is this a new home / neighborhood, old?

Well,
The Satellite issue was unrelated and the problem was the IR emitter wasn,t transmitting and so the Sat is fine.
As for the plasma, Panasonic recommended a service center send a tech, so we have one on the way.
As for protection I'm using an HTS 2500.
According to the client no one has been working in the house at all. The subdivision is established on the lake but homes are still being built within a quarter mile.

Sometimes lake homes have independant power companies. Their guidelines are usually less than adequate for our systems.

Hey Cmack, How do you get the PANASONIC PLASMA to jump sources when using a PROG DVD, and a regular SAT with the Pronto?

Iv been using macros and having it goto PC input first(which is a fixed input selection) than issuing the other presses to get me to the right input.

Always worked problem free cause you always start with the PC Input -

Is there another way? Or are there Discrets?

What's the solution? By the way this was a remodel so I was able to get the system on it's own circuit.

I use the discrete s video and then apply one input and your at component video. No delay is needed so you can't even tell the difference. Found the CCF file here, for a 42" Panasonic plasma and worked great!

Turns out there was a bad power (module, supply), not sure of the technical term, I got the info from the client. Panasonic is overnighting the part and should be fixed by Monday or Tuesday next week.

Well, looks like Panasonic was wrong about the power supply module. Something else is wrong and we're waiting for another part. I'll be sure to post the solution.

Maybe it's the flux-capacitor! (that's the technical term for the problem that you can't ever track down)
