What am I missing?

I have an AMPLIFIED (Winegard GS2200) OTA antenna installed in an attic. I also have a seperate passive FM antenna installed. I am trying to combine them on the same RG6 line to the home run. I am using a 2 way splitter (backwards) with the OTA on one port, and the FM on the other port. The single port goes to the home run.

I have tried a regular splitter.
I have tried a power passing splitter on BOTH ports.
I have tried a power passing splitter on ONE port (the passing port hooked to the powered OTA)

With ANY of the above configurations, as soon as I hook the FM antenna to the splitter, it KILLS my TV signal. Im getting between 13 and 25db on all the local TV stations. As soon as I connect the FM antenna, it takes the TV signals down to neg 7db or more.

This IS possible isnt it? (Powered OTA and FM antenna on the same line)

Thanks

Antenna amps actually have a FM trap to remove FM for this very reason.

Sorry I don't have a better answer

frank,

something tells me this wont work..... have not done to much terestrial antenna's but the dc power might be cauzing some issues...

your wingard should be pulling in fm anyways.... try getting a uhf/vhf/fm (they used to exsist) break out adapter.... in the structured panel.....

Ed's right. On the owners manual, they specifically tell you not to split or combine between the antenna and the power injector. Don't see an FM trap on it, so you should be able to break out after the amp with a tap and go to the antenna input on your receiver.

Are you talking about using a normal 2 way splitter after the amp, a tap, or another "breakout" piece similar to what Ed was talking about? If it IS a breakout piece, what would I look/search for?

thanks

FM generally doesn't need as strong a signal as TV (no picture to support)
You could use a tap, which would send most of the signal one way (to a TV, for example), and the smaller signal to the reciever
You could use a product that splits out, with one leg labeled fm and one tv. Pico used to make them, but I don't see it in their catalog.
