If the job can warrant it, subing out low level technical work is a good thing. If one of the goals of your company is to focus on the core skills of integration and not be a "jack of all trades and master of none" this is especially true.
You may need to look at adding project management as one of your company's core skills. Stating the obvious, in addition to design and planning, the project management part is another key part of quality control and it shouldn't mater if it's your staff or a sub.
It all depends on where or what your core strengths are? Cable pulling or ?
Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with confidence.
I sub out all our pre-wires. If there's a problem I make one call and they come back and fix it, regardless of what stage the building is at. No questions. (One nick or ding on the jacket of a CAT5 and they replace it at their cost.)
They give me a fixed price per drop which I mark up accordingly. I have an accurate estimating model and a consistent profit margin. Are we the cheapest - no. Do they quality control and test everything - yes. Does the same company that I use do all the things that I request they do on their own installs - probably not, so does a customer get a good product for a fair price - absolutely.
I also sub out lighting, security, shades and programming of our AMX. I "in-house" project management, design, drawings and docs, set-up and install of A/V, calibration etc.
