I cannot seem to find a small (10-20 watt) amp with ir volume control to use for ceiling/ wall speakers and a digital cable box. I want to program the vol up and down into the custom remote and do it at at the amp rather than the source to control hum.

The Niles TVA-50 is designed for your purpose, but you would have to use the VC in the cable box... I've used it and had no hum - YMMV
