Boss was told by rep that Epson will drop rear projection instead of shipping. Will sell only in Japan. Epson thinks the market will only support flat panels.
Anybody else here this?
Julie?

Yea, I got a letter a few days ago from EPSON saying the CristalPro's were not going to be sold in the U.S. (still going to be sold in Japan I guess). They said it was due to the demand of flat panel displays. They just could not justify the cost.

Personaly, I'm disappointed because I was planning on geting one. It's also a shame because they were a true 1080p 3LCD(If anyone saw them at CEDIA or CES you know how good they look). They were the best looking 1080p's after JVC and Sony's LcOS. But oh well mabye I'll get the JVC 70in or mabye I'll just stick with my Pio 434CMX.

GW--can you send me the letter?
LG's most recent update says they are droppig LCoS TVs but continuing DLPs.
I'm a big fan of microdisplays. It's what I would buy. It baffles me that people spend twice as much for flat panels, and that mfrs think rear pros won't make it.

I am also and Epson dealer and got the letter on the CrystalPro's. It is a shame because they had great features, great picture, and a great price. Maybe if they would get out of bed with Ultimate, and talk to some of us CI guys they would feel different. We do more front and rear projection by far than flat panel.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yeah, pretty disappointing. We had a list of about 10 people that wanted us to call them as soon as the new Epsons arrived. It feels like a real kick in the gems since we've been waiting for about three months for them.

tschulte, I couldn't agree more. In the last year we've only sold a handful of flat panels, but we're moving front and rear projection out the door non-stop.

It's still a projector in a box, with all of the inherent issues of... a projector in a box.

Direct view displays, whether CRT tube, PDP, or LCD are far more forgiving in far more applications, and IMO this is why they are always going to prosper over the projector in a box category.

That said, I have an old Sony analog XBR 56" CRT rptv that has served me well... (for the rare occasion that I get to watch TV)
I love the new JVC Pro 1080P HD-ILAs for applications where light can be controlled. The 61" version will probably be my next TV.
