does anyone know if the Sony Sat HD200 is easy to automate. Perticularly Hd-on, Hd-off, power on, and power off. The older model Sony Hd satellite receivers had an on screen display that you had to scroll through to turn high def on and off. Does anyone know if they fixed that problem on this later model.

The menu is a lot easier to use, the cosmetics are nicer and more modern, but the Hd, Sd use is the same you still have to go through that display to get HD, and as far as I know there are not any discrete codes for that, Sorry.

Discrete codes are available via RS-232. Check over at www.avsforum.com

John,

The HD200 does have discrete power commands. It has ID 50 and 51 choices. ID50 is the standard Sony Sat receiver codes so the discrete power commands are those posted here at RC. I posted the ID51 power commands over in the Discrete forum. AFAIK, it does not have a discrete HD and RD commands - is it possible that it has simultaneous HD and RD output?

KFE,

I have repeatedly heard that the Sony HD200 and Zenith DTV1080 are the same (or similar). Does the Zenith actually respond to the Sony IR commands? The last time I decoded a ccf file for the 1080 it still used the old Zenith STB commands that are only 5-bit(meaning a max of 32 commands) and AFAIK no discrete power commands - not that I think it is that big of a deal.

The remote codes are different. Sony's A65 & B65 receivers are made by Hughes, but still use the Sony IR commands. If you need any of Sony's Discrete codes E-mail me.

So from all this, does it mean that there is no descrete 1080I and 480I IR codes for the Sony/Zenth 200HD?

Will the RS232 Hex work if it is sent on an IR Carrier? I have tried to control 232 but I can't use 57600 Baud on an AMX Axcent III so IR Would be great!

The HD200 has 3 variable output modes for HD (one for IN = OUT, one for IN = OUT but all HD = 720p, and one for IN = OUT but all HD = 1080i) , so allowing the customer to change modes is really unecessary.

Or maybe I'm shortsighted... can anyone think of a reason to change output modes once you've chosen the right one for your set?

Its the Zenith SAT-520 that is built on the same chasis as the SAT-200 SOny. Not the 1080. IR codes are different, but rs-232 command set is the same.

THe reason to remotely trigger SD vs. HD output is for Recording to a VCR. When in HD mode, no compoiste or S output for Recording. Thats why I still like the DTC-100.

The other reason (to want to switch between HD and SD) is that for some systems you may wish to use a far superior outboard scaler for channels that are not broadcast in HD. Or let your plasma do the scaling.

So you may only want to use the HD output when watching channels that are broadcasting in HD.
