Hi,
A prospective client is ready to move into his new house. Of course, the place is wired all wrong -- the builder gave him an extra RG-6 in the family room and called it distributed video .
Anyway, they want to put a color camera in the kids' playroom. Now this playroom is painted to resemble a performing theater, with a stage area etc. They want to have a color video camera installed so the kids can put on performances and watch them on a local TV. They also want to be able to view this room from other TVs in the house. Problem: only a single RG-6. So, how can I modulate this? Is there a wireless camera that's decent and can be modulated? Should I use a camcorder and a 2nd camera??
Thanks in advance,
Dawn

We do a fair amount of cameras but I still need more info.
I am assuming that there is no way to get any other cables to the room? Are they using cable or satellite? What is wrong with using just the camecorder?

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. |

What about a network camera?
If you had a lan port, you could plug in one of the Panasonic network cameras Panasonic came out with a silver box that allows you to monitor your camera through a composite output; it would also give remote control of pan, tilt and zoom, predicated on specifics of the camera.
They also offer a wi-fi network camera, which would not perform as well, but is certainly worth considering.
See you in Orlando!

Power, Audio and Video over 1 Coax Cable..... [Link: smarthome.com]I assume the Coax goes to the HEad end where it can then be easily modulated...

If you have power nearby, why not just put in any camera you want and run it out on a single channel modulator. May not look the prettiest, but it would solve the problem.

Goodness.... How much do you want to cram on one lonely peice of Coax.....
Unfortunatly, no...
But you could spit the video output of the camera Before you feed it into this adaptor so they could at least have a Monitor inthe room.

Impact, thanks, we may go that route, or just put in a plain modulator as Wire Nuts suggests.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

you could do the plain modulator and split right out the mod. Watch it tho. A fair number of mods out there have decent rf out (15-25bd) so you may have to put a pad or 2 on the output. I have found in the past it is not adviseable or doable to run baseband on standard rg-6 due to aluminum braided cable does not transmit baseband too well.

Dawn, you may want to look at greyfox for low cost solution as I described above. You can get the cameras in color and B/W.

I am normally a big proponent of Greyfox equipment, but in this case I would not suggest it. They are probably wanting to record these productions, and the greyfox is more of a security type camera. Good picture, but not that good. Also, I am not sure if the microphone module has been released yet. I am sure they would want sound.
I would say go with a good camcorder on a mount in the back of the room. Split that to a TV/VCR in the room and to a modulator that will send it throughout the home.
