I'd be interested to hear about any oddball components you've come across in the field that either takes extra work to get functional with a remote, or never ends up working at all.
Thoughts?

in the UK NTL cable boxes(Pace digital set top boxes Models 1000, 1010, 2000 and 4000, and Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4000DVB which uses an unusual infra-red signal protocol, based on the IRDA standard) until the Red-Eye infra-red translator came along. The Red-Eye device overcomes this problem, by receiving commands from a different remote code system (RC6), translating them into IRDA style commands and relaying them to the cable box.
This was the first infra red product (NTL boxes)i came accross that a pronto remote could not work with,i had been told about B&0 but i had no trouble with the models i was asked to programme up for.
Why make a piece of consumer electronics and certainly a central part of an av system non standard?

I have never been able to learn IR codes from the remote supplied with Lutron dimmers. Very thankful of this site for having these and other obscure codes.

Theta Casablanca III if using the IR input. Needs a xantech interface to make it work, not acceptable for this price range. Works fine if you put the flasher on the front but many people in this price catgory don't want a flasher stuck to their expensive piece.

Bob Very few Eosoteric companys put much effort into their Control..... Especially ont he IR side.... A couple have decent RS-232... But not nearly what they should be.... Musical Fidelity drives me nuts... (RC-5 with Togle Bit), Krell and thier Craptacular Credit card remotes..... Loewe/Marantz RC-5 Interaction... (Dont miss setting up Loewes.. THats for sure...)

I find the LG LDA-511 upconverting DVD players do not respond to power commands very well when used with an IR repeater system.

Most know about the ridiculously over-sensitive Ir sensor on the HR10-250 DirecTV satellite box. I also pulled my hair out using the Ir jack on a current model Classe' pre/pro - a search will find the thread.

- Philips "Hopper" projectors (thanks to the RC-5 toggle codes) - older Escient Fireball H or E series... the new E2 , SE and DVDM units are no problem... - Motorola cable boxes (a DCT-6200 is giving me fits now) None of the various discrete power commands I have tracked down seems to work on this box, and it only intermittently responds to commands no matter how I configure the # of repeats or emitter gain level from the RTI RP-6. The best I can get is 7 or maybe 8 responses out of 10 times when everything else in the rack is 99 out of 100 or better.
